As a consumer of countless hours of KZfaq content, I was shocked when I went to click subscribe and saw that you only had 50k subs. Your topics are unique and diverse and you’re as enthusiastic as someone who just played their first game last week. Editing is top notch as well. Keep it up!

This is the best video you have ever made, I know this is a short and super simplistic video but the meaning and point of view is sooooo important. I struggle with this now myself and it gives such a great perspective. I needed to hear this…..thanks…..

Came here to say me too. I'd not done anything active in 5 to 10 years. Started Pickleball with some clinics and playing a lot. Up to 4 days a week now that my stamina is back and my 54 year old body is cooperating. Really began playing well and outpacing a lot of folks significantly faster than I ever expected. After having so much early success, I began to expect to play well and win the majority of the time. Obviously, that is unreasonable, and I am still VERY new and have so much to learn. However, that did not stop me from beating myself up during pay which caused my performance to spiral often. I knew I needed something to enable me to reset my brain while playing so as to not get so frustrated. Last night, played in my league, lost the first game, but continued to practice what you discuss in this video. I won the next 5. Two coming from behind and one 11-0 and finished off the game with two aces. I know aces are rare in most play and certainly from me. Anyway, that's a lot to say thanks. I'd already been enjoying your videos as you seem to have the most fun of those who provide these and you are genuinely entertaining, which is rare in anything I watch on KZfaq. :)

@@thatpickleballguy Of course. I just watched the 5-minute clip of you on Pickleball cafe discussing why everyone is "addicted" . I've been using that word, but the way you so accurately and sincerely describe what mirrors my experience and others makes it seem a bit more than that. I need a different word, I think. I also appreciate that you must be well read as I have noticed you often quote authors. And it seems to come organically and tie together well what you are trying to get across. Anyway, again, really appreciate your thoughts outside of your tip/instructional videos, too. Shared that one on FB to see if I can make people understand why I won't shut up about it either. :) OK, I'm done. Have a great remainder of the week. Just realized there are probably 100 pickleball podcasts. Need to find one...STAT.

better thinking yields better results over time. This is good thinking. Great shots are rare when that shot was a bad choice in the first place. I've found; at every level in every sport, the best players are better between the ears. Thanks for sharing.

Kyle, Love your discussions of the "mental" aspects of pickleball as well as your focus on strategies. One minor point on analyzing decision making after shots. Pickleball is a fast game with point opportunities coming every few seconds. It is mentally challenging to attempt the useful analysis you described in the few seconds between shots. If we were playing golf, we would have minutes between shots to analyze decision making on a particular shot. I try to remember, after a game, the number and types of unforced errors I made to try to practice how to remedy my tendencies. Thanks again for your insights into the mental aspects of pickleball.

As a doctor of sport psychology, your video was excellent. Separating the decision from the outcome is crucial. After an error I ask myself if it was an decision error or a execution error. If the decision was correct, then I just know I need to practice the shot more. Thanks for all your helpful videos. I share them a lot.

Good video and great advice. I "get away" with low-percentage shots often. The reaction of "whoa great shot!" is fun, as I turn to my partner and say "wow I got lucky there!". lol

Brilliant. If my partner is attempting the right shot (a drop is perfect example) but messes it up (maybe too high and opponent slams it at me) and he then gets upset at himself, I like to tell him that it's really a win b/c he hit the right shot. It will take time to get it more perfect, but it was the right shot. Sadly almost no one does this, but how else do we improve if we only hit safe shots every time (often, that means hard drives, which are easiest to hit)?

I recently started critiquing my golf shots starting with the question _Was it the right idea?_ If the answer is _yes_ and it was poor execution, I critique that. If the answer is _no_ then I critique the strategy. I’ve started doing it in PB too, which often leads to the conclusion that I should’ve punched instead of smashed 😂

Great video The outcome and the decision do have some correlation. Looking at that famous SB play, it was universally panned because of having one of the best goal line RBs in the game. Putting into pickleball context...it's the same reason that Collin Johns generally does not speed up the ball. He has the opportunity, but he lets Ben attack because he is the superior player. Just freeze your screen at 0:54 - there is no way anyone should be calling a quick pass in that situation. A crossing route takes advantage of that defensive scheme. Or have Russ run around and try to find a receiver or scramble in. That was a bad call.
