After hundreds of hours practicing air dribble training packs, I just realized that the training packs themselves actually hurt me more than help. I could always hit the shot in training but never consistently in games. I've recently just started going into free-play and practicing that way as it forces me to create my own set up instead of relying on the perfect setup training packs always give you which almost never happens in an actual game. I haven't touched a training pack in about 2 weeks and I am already a lot more consistent in games. Just a tip for those who may have the same issue.
@user-rf9vq2nk2z6 ай бұрын
In actual games you should basically make sure to get to that "perfect" setup before going for air dribbles. You can practice this specific consistency in training but the training pack like others for this is not negligible for practicing wall dribbling itself. Plus this pack already gives you the ability to setup yourself to practice it

Idk why you have ‘hundreds of hours’ on training packs (especially for air dribbling packs) I feel like packs can help but mostly use free play with packs aiding to it. And also air dribbled packs r useless except for things that funnily enough r not air dribbles
@mistere58576 ай бұрын
This is a normal part of improving your mechanics. Training packs give you the perfect setup so you get the visual and muscle memory of where the car and ball should be as well as what inputs you need to do to succeed. However, if you only ever do training packs then you will get wrecked by higher level players. As soon as they see what you can do with the perfect setup, they will prevent you from ever getting the perfect setup.

Not a trick. A reminder of Rocket League's default ball cam view-- a beeline vector center screen to the blind spot directly on the other side of the ball, wherever that points on the field.

So I started playing a couple years ago with my sons, picked it back up recently and taught myself wall setups last night, and this was the main thing that I picked up because I have my camera swivel all the way up, so it makes the timing window seem smaller and it really helped me get the first touch consistent

I love how in-depth your videos go, like in the powershot video, feels like a subconciously inserted mini intro to physics lesson. It isn't so much of a tutorial, but a lesson. Every other channel just says "match the speed, jump and follow the ball like and sub plz". I could have sworn I subbed forever ago, but i guess I didn't. And thank you for the flip reset video. Im still not good enough at them to do them in game, but man are they fun to play with in custom matches with friends when I only have a few minutes to hop on.

Your tips are super useful as always. I've been able to build on small steps just because you explained them just right. One of the things that will be useful is to tackle a few in game scenarios where you see the ball and should a couple of approaches to your decision making on what to do next. For example, do you go straight up for an aerial here, or go off the wall instead etc and why.

Just the video I needed, I learnt air roll, air dribbles and flip resets from u and have since got very consistent at them, my problem is the setup and actually using the mechs I have in a match. Thanks for another great vid. Also There is something called dodge control a youtuber named kevpert has covered it and it is a great way to get control of the ball in the air when it bounces away from the wall you might want to look into that if you haven't already as it could be another tutorial idea.

Nice pack. I'm missing a shot here where the ball roll from the opponent's corner so you have to slightly tap a ball rolling on the ball toward you and not from you. Other than, that, I really like the addition of control toward the wall shots.

Why not use the overlay to show where to hit the ball. or even just 'take control mode'. That is sweet when you need to take a piss or something. You can set it up to play a certain rank style and do certain moves
@user-bj5qi1hh7t6 ай бұрын
Griff, forgive me if im being dumb, but when talking about shot 2 and 3 at 5:18, were you saying to jump before or after contact with the ball on shot 2 when it is higher up on the wall? When you say they "work best using one or the other", does that mean you can jump before or after contact and it doesn't matter (on these shots 2 and 3)?
@Grifflicious6 ай бұрын
Shot two, you should aim to jump late, shot 3 should be early. Sorry if it wasn’t clear.

How do you do the half roll off the wall to make your car upright no matter how i move my analog it does move that way
@Grifflicious2 ай бұрын
It's a binding called "air roll left". There is also air roll right but I typically don't use that one. Conversely, if you hold down your air roll button, should you have one, you can then roll the car left or right based on your joystick direction.
@juanmav826 ай бұрын
is it possible to have nice setups and plays without using directional air roll all the time? I'm not that mechanical and I can not use directional air roll how you show in the video 😢. However, I was able to more or less do the setups you described. Any advice?
@Grifflicious6 ай бұрын
Of course! Just don't over use your boost in the air. Be intentional about your touches (speed and direction) and take your time. When you don't use air roll, you really have to make sure and not commit to any one direction while boosting. It will create a directional momentum that will be very difficult to control and correct.

What I can't seem to get is "under" the ball so I time to use air roll - I just seem to head straight at the ball and just "push" it in with the nose of the car. Any tips on how to get "under" the ball from the take off?
