When I do explosive pull ups, I end up using momentum after 3-4 reps. How do I control it and prevent myself from using momentum?

I think you should stick to 3-4 reps, rest, and continue series of 3-4 reps. You'll progress slowly and won't need momentum to keep it going

Explosive training should be in the 3-5 rep range, so as soon as you notice the form degrading you should stop and rest

Thx to your advice am finally comfertable doing pull ups. I took your advice so much i have control of the full range of the motion. I can literally start and stop anywhere in the motion thank you. Now am going to focus on the explosive part of the pull up

for me to get better at high pull ups and muscle ups i just did weighted muscle ups, allows me to pull higher and dip stronger, many people plateau with the high pull up and i think weighted muscle ups are neglected cause you don't need to pull waist high, you just need to pull lower chest, and when you do that with an extra 10kgs you can most likely pull up to your belly button and silky smooth body weight muscle ups

When I train explosive pull ups my elbow really start to hurt. Not immediately but like 30 minutes later and for days my elbow tendonds hurt like hell. I am not kipping, not swinging, doing about 3-4 reps max. Tried first, got elbow pains, dropped it for about 2 months, rest, do other exercises, and when my elbow got better I tried again, doing less, with more rests, but hurts again. Went from pull up to neck to pull up under the chest, happy with the results, but sad that I need to stop again, and don't know how to start to not hurt.

I ended up with a tennis elbow type injury trying to advance my pull ups beyond my chin. It has set me back a long way, and I am restarting with simple low rep sets (5) focused on form and chin to bar. Any tips to avoid elbow strain?

At bedtime I lie face up with my sore elbows behind my back and hands on my hip. As the hands and arm become numb after 30 seconds I slide them out slightly to the sides. Then wait another few seconds and then slide them out some more then do this one last time to slide arms to the sides of the body. No repetition. Next morning my elbow soreness seemed to disappeared. If not then I skip a day of arm exercises to prevent the injury to become more severe.

Had same problem for a few years. Stretching really helped . Try Dr. Yaad guide to iron wrists. I only did the stretching routine and did it every day. Also wore compression sleeves for a few hours a day but not sure if that accomplished anything.

Do them slowly... count til 3 when you are pulling up and count til 3 when you are coming down... Or change your grip..try a super-wide grip. And their are all kinds of different variations which you can find such as the commando pull-ups.

Probably because if anyone is able able to do 10 strict pull up(full range of motion and slowly)then he is able to do a muscle up .Here the problem can be in body fat percentage or you just have to figure out the trick of muscle up and you have to practice it just like negative pull up

I mean, avarage human can not do a strict muscle up, if you are avarage you should just stick to basics like push ups and pull ups, and if you can do like 10-15 pull ups, you are not a normal avarage human anymore

It's the most overrated exercise for show only..it takes away from your pull up and dip volume

muscle ups arent overrated imo, it needs a lot of pulling strength and some technique, and the explosive part of the pulling has helped me a lot, doing them in high volume really helped my calisthenics endurance and for both explosive pulling and pushing

@@greigite5191 I can do them but I don't change my normal exercise program..10 muscle ups and 10 dips will always be less than 20 pull ups and 50 dips..I prefer 20 and 50 if I train ..muscle ups take a lot of energy but at the end of day your muscles like they didn't work in 2 months
