It’s easy to install an 2.5" SATA into a desktop PC. We’ll show you how.
Before you make your purchase, be sure to confirm if you will need a cloning software. Kingston makes two versions of most SSDs: With Installation Kit and Drive Only. The version With Installation Kit includes a download code for the Acronis True Image disk cloning software, a USB 3.0 enclosure, and mounting bracket, screws, SATA cable, and power cable. You need the Installation Kit version if you are upgrading an old laptop from an old drive to a new SSD. You might go with the Drive Only option if you are building a new PC and installing a fresh OS and already have the mounting hardware. Note, the MacOS includes the Disk Utilities app for cloning so Acronis True Image will only be needed if you are running Windows and require cloning. If you don’t need the Installation Kit version, you might decide to go with the less expensive Drive Only version.
1. Remember to always refer to your computer’s manual before disassembling it or replacing any hardware.
2. As a precaution, prior to handling the SSD, touch an unpainted and grounded metal object or use an anti-static wrist strap to work in a static-safe environment.
3. Safely disconnect the power from the system.
4. Loosen and remove the computer case cover from the desktop.
5. Locate the SATA port on the motherboard. If you are using a 2.5” drive bay, detach the mounting bracket.
6. Attach the SSD by aligning the mounting screw holes on the bracket with the holes on the SSD and mount the SSD in the drive bay. If you are using a 3.5” drive bay, detach the mounting bracket. Attach the SSD by aligning the mounting screw holes on the bracket with the holes on the SSD. Locate an available 3.5” drive bay inside the desktop and install the SSD.
7. Attach one end of the SATA cable to the SSD and the other end to the SATA connector on the motherboard.
8. Take the SATA power cable that is connected to the power supply and attach it to the SSD. If there was not one connected, you can use the power cable included in
the Installation Kit version.
9. Put the computer case panel back onto the desktop.
10. Plug in the power cord and boot up your system.
If you need help cloning your drive, please check our Acronis True Image cloning video here: • How to clone your hard...

I have few doubts, answer need urgently 1. Can we use the same power supply used for 3.5 inch HDD to power 2.5 inch SSD ? 2. Is the same SATA cable compatible with the SSD which is used in 3.5 inch HDD ? Thank you ❤️
@kingston
@kingston 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Adarsh! 1. The same power supply can be used for a 3.5" HDD and 2.5" SSD if the plugs match the ports on both drives. You may need an adapter if your power supply does not have the correct SATA connection. 2. You can use the same SATA cable on the SSD and HDD if the connection matches.

Most modular and semi-modular PSUs have an additional power cable you can plug in or you can look for a SATA Power Splitter Cable online. However, if yours doesn't have one or is non-modular PSU, than you may not have that option to do so and you may have to use the power cable of another drive or upgrade the PSU entirely.

If you disconnect all the other drives and boot the computer to a windows or linux install USB with the new SSD connected, the operating system installer should be able to find the SSD, format it, and install the operating system on it as a boot drive. That is provided that you are using a relatively modern main board with the UEFI protocol.

I think I expected a bit "more" from this video. For example, how to also properly setup/format the SSD so it is usable. When I think of a "How to Install" something video, I think I will see not only how to physically install that item, but also make it ready for use. I went ahead and "Liked" the video anyway, because I appreciate the information on even the "little" things associated with PC building/upgrading that not everyone is aware of when they attempt to do their own build. Unfortunately, this video will not show those folks how to use their SSD once it is installed after following the instructions in this video.

@idmooseman
@idmooseman 5 жыл бұрын
@@kingston I noticed that, but I'm not referring to cloning. I'm thinking of the initial settings needed prior to performing the format process. Something along the lines of, what settings do I choose for a 250GB SSD versus a 2TB SSD, and things like that. Someone new to this might not know what is needed. I didn't, and it took me a while to figure out. This video seemed like the perfect place to show those settings selections, why those settings were chosen, and the format/setup process itself, so someone doing it for the first time can see what is involved.

A 500gb SSD is perfectly adequate, and more than enough for simple browsing and work, but if you plan on throwing many games onto it, you may want either a larger SSD or a 2nd one (or an older higher capacity HDD if youre on a budget). As for the m.2, you don't need one for your 2.5 inch SSD to work. They are seperate types of solid state drives that run independently.

The SATA cable should already come with your previous system especially if you are replacing the original drive (3.5' HDD or 2.5' SSD). Depending on your model you would use the same SATA cable as your previous drive if it is a traditional 3.5' HDD or 2.5' SATA SSD.

Yes if you have the space and connectors. just check the amount of SATA connectors your motherboard has and thats how many SSDs you can fit.

Hello CodevvI, Typically, the motherboard manufacturer includes the SATA cables, and you usually provide around two or three cables, but you can always purchase extra or custom SATA cables.
