I used a 55 gallon round with a banjo and it's works great no leaks after washing three big houses bro.

The silicone will go on the fixed side. So in this videos case you would silicone the part that is on the inside of the 55 gallon drum. Silicone all the way around the fixed part of the bulkhead fitting.

If you want to plug the this particular bulkhead fitting. You can use a male threaded pvc plug.

Well basically the only reason I would need silicone is because the tank is rounded. However I more than likely won't need to use silicone. The hole size is the exact size hole I need for this bulkhead. As seen in the video there is little to no gap when the bulkhead is inserted in the hole. It is a 1inch bulkhead for 1inch pvc plumbing. But that 1in on the bulkhead is referring to inside diameter or to the fact that it is for 1inch pvc pipe. The bulkhead outer diameter where the nut is threaded onto is pretty much 1 3/4". You won't be able to use a smaller hole for this bulkhead even if you wanted to. But when I do make the half barrel into a wicking bed we'll see of silicone is needed or not. Just on the outside. The inside is normal. But you can get bulkheads that don't have the threads reversed.

I'm working with an existing bulkhead and I was unscrewing it as I would anything.....it worked out in the end
