this actually helped alot. ive installed many belts on many mopeds but i never knew to push in the variator before you put it on like that. if only i knew this before cutting up my aliexpress belt thinking it was too wide... so far $68nzd down the drain. but hey lesson learnt.

You didn't say anything about the correct tension on the belt. How much play should be on the belt once installed? I've noticed that my brand new belt seems to be very loose and has about 20mm of play when I press it together in he middle. Is that correct?

Very good video. I just bought a new 2023 Yamaha Zuma 125. How long do the belts last?

On a Zuma 125, you can reasonably see 8000 plus miles out of a belt. I would personally change them out at about 5k due to wear so as to keep performance tip top, but the bike isn't known as a belt breaker or anything. Great little scoot.

Question. I have a brand new zuma 125. From day one, it’s been having a oscillating/floorboard vibration at 28-38 mph. Feels like a washing machine. I read a few forums about v belts and cvt’s and most say it’s just the nature of it. Any idea? I ordered another oem belt. Just waiting on it to change and see if that helps. Scoot has 180 miles on it and it’s not getting better

@O G nope. Sold it. I changed everything from the belt to the clutch sheaves and clutch springs and even the tension springs. Same oscillation. I dumped it and got a honda pcx. Problem solved.

@O G pcx is more $ but well worth it. For a 125, it’s very good. Smoother than the yamaha and heavier. I like the zuma because of its smaller sporty look but honda has a better ride than the zuma. No vibration or any issues yet. I have 2200 miles on it and it’s mint

@O G as far as power, the zuma has a tad bit more off the line and a little more torque than the honda, but at 55-60 mph, the honda is way smoother. Both are obviously 125cc and side by side, about the same acceleration, zuma has a quicker start.

hi. how are you supposed to squeeze the clutch with a higher rpm contra? its too stiff to do by hand.

I personally use a 18V Bosch electric impact with 1,800 in/lbs of tq when I work on bikes, so if it's about that powerful, then yes, I think that it would work fine.

Jiajue has several different models of 50cc scooter. To make this easier: what size is your rear tire? That will tell me which belt is correct for you.

729-18-30 is the standard size for QMB139 engines with a 12" rear wheel. Are you getting it down into the driven pulley all the way? Sometimes it's not all the way down there and it makes the belt seem too small when installed.

@@soulvaccination8679 The spring on the clutch pulley can be very strong, and you need to squeeze and rotate the outside of the pulley at the same time to open it all the way.

Really depends on the bike, some bikes wear through belts quicker than others. I like to change mine at roughly 4000 miles.

What kind of an impact are you using? The stronger the impact the easier it comes off, and the one we used in the video is pretty serious. You do have to grip that faceplate with some force.

An impact works the best, and really on some scooters is the only real option. If you are removing the variator on a QMB139 50cc scooter, you can use one of these tools to lock the variator in place so it can be removed with hand tools. www.partsforscooters.com/137-12-Naraku-Locking-Tool
