Sorry but years of education and experience should be what makes you thousands. You shouldn't be doing this for a job after a 5 minute youtube video. It's a good video. Gives excellent tips, and the work is clean, but watching it doesn't make you a carpenter, and it would be irresponsible to say you can charge money for this service after watching a video. My 2 cents anyways.

It's the extra steps that make all the difference between an adequate job and an excellent job. IMO - if it pertains to your own home, things such as baseboards are probably only going to be installed once in your lifetime. So put the little extra work in. You're already there with the materials and tools. Do an excellent job and spend the rest fo your life admiring your work. Wes's advice is spot on.

Great video Wes. Love the 1/2 degree and sandpaper ideas, can't wait to put them to the test. The 366 down votes you got are baseboard installers angry that you gave away the secrets like Pen & Teller. QUESTION: I have been cutting my baseboards laying down flat on the chop saw, not standing up like you do, so I can extend my blade life by not having to cut through so much material on every cut. Is there really a difference either way for cutting baseboards? Is your method any better than the way I cut them?

Wes Hamstra nice video. I ve been using this trick for more than 10 years. My father taught me he is a finish carpenter. Instead of -+half a degree. I put my pencil behing the piece im cutting giving me -+1 degree cause the pencil is 1/4 thick. This way i keep my saw at 45. I use it everyday. Is addictive and you get better at it by time.
