Learn how to install gable trim on a standing seam metal roof. Gable trim is used to finish off the edge of your metal roof. It’s installed on the two high sides of the roof, not the low side of the roof that follows the pitch. There is also a kick-out on the bottom of the gable flashing that will help direct water away from your wall. This is our most popular standing seam gable and rake detail.

The gable trim detail requires installation of 4 separate trim pieces plus all of the standing seam metal roofing accessories.
Receiver Trim Installation
The receiver trim has two purposes: It holds your first and last standing seam panels in place, and it is used to fasten your gable trim.
How To Install Receiver Trim
1. Cut your trim to size.
2. Install flush to gable side 1” from ridgeline and flush to your eave.
3. For long runs, receiver trim is butted end-to-end with no overlaps needed.
4. Fasten with pancake screws 12” on center. It’s recommended that you pre-drill your holes prior to installation.
Trim Cleat
This is a piece of metal that's designed to hold the gable trim in place
How To Install Trim Cleat
1. Fasten the trim cleat with pancake screws 12” on center.
2. Additional sections of trim cleat are butted end to end with no overlaps.
Angle Trim
This piece of metal will attach to the gable trim and also hide the galvanized finish of the receiver trim.

1. Fasten angle trim to receiver trim with pop rivets at 12" OC

How To Overlap Gable Flashing
1. Overlaps should be six inches.
2. Mark 6” onto your trim.
3. At the drip edge, notch out the hem of the trim to the 6” mark.
4. On the top, cut up to the 6” mark.
5. Put two beads of silicone sealant on the adjacent section of trim 3” from the edge.
6. Slide trim downwards into its position to prevent silicone sealant from spreading.

How To Fasten Gable Trim
1. Wrap the gable trim around the receiver trim.
2. Snap into the trim cleat.
3. Secure the gable onto the receiver trim with pop rivets 12” on center.
