Welcome back to the channel everyone! Today I'll show you how to install LED headlight bulbs in a Toyota Celica!
Just a note: I originally was going to add a "before/after" brightness test, but many of the video files became corrupted somehow and I lost the footage of the test. So, instead, I did a quick little video edit to show you how the Tsunami Celica looks with led lights at sunset!
Ultimately, the LED conversion was pretty simple, but keep in mind that the bulb sizes, and the amount of modification needed, will depend solely on the headlight housing that you have. The original headlights will likely need extra modifications and different bulbs than these aftermarket ones. Make sure you study up on the headlight bulbs you'll need before attempting the conversion!

Note: I was planning on doing a before and after brightness test but the "before" footage became corrupted somehow and I lost it. Instead, I took the car to a nice location and did a little edit to show the lights off and on. Hope you enjoy it!

Thank you so much. That bolt on the side of the headlight assembly had me stumped. Other videos just showed them whipping the lights right out, but the way you showed in detail how to access that one bolt was a life saver.

I went to put led bulbs in my celica, ever since then I've not been getting light on the road, the bulbs are pointing straight ahead and the adjustment screw doesn't budge them

Does this process still work on a celica gt?

I believe it does, I don't think that toyota used any different parts for the headlights or bulb sizes between the GTS or GT version!

Nice video. 4 things.. Where did you splice the housing wires to? The red and black ones? And the LEDs too? Also, in making the whole on top of the dust cap, did you pull the other wires out, then made a hole, or how did you do it?
@carboys568
@carboys568 3 жыл бұрын
The LED headlight bulbs have two blade pin connectors coming from the back, the wires (seen at 7:28) that were connected to the original headlight lamp were just unplugged and plugged in with the blade pin connectors. no splicing required this time. I did however have to splice the led halos to the original wiring, but I showed that in the first video. I simply took some scissors and cut a hole in the top of the dust boot so that I wouldn't harm the existing wires and I could pull the large components (like the regulator box) through.

A few things I want to comment: Damn those wheels looking clean and not exaggerated! And I liked the video´s chilly atmosphere. Lol I can´t sleep so watching this atm. The celica´s engine bay sure isn´t the most spacious, don´t you agree? :D Well, 1.8l was the only engine choice after all, so that must explain it. I have the celica 01´ t-sport (170k km driven) with upgraded lift bolts that aren´t prone to breaking and... uh I guess that´s pretty much it. But the interesting thing is that I am attempting to make it run on ethanol... tomorrow is the day!
@carboys568
@carboys568 2 жыл бұрын
Haha thanks man! and yeah, unfortunately there isn't much swapping potential for this car, strictly because of how small and tight the engine bay is. You can get away with MAYBE another boosted 4 banger, like the 2.3 l Mazdaspeed, but that's a huge maybe. Best to just upgrade the rods, pistons, and engine cap to make the power you want I think. Let me know how ethanol goes! Did you have to do a custom flex fuel conversion?
@teme5529
@teme5529 2 жыл бұрын
@@carboys568 Yeah, glad to announce the fact that I love the high revs so much! I think the exact rev limit is 8250 on my model. Of course the strict engine bay dimensions help keep the car´s overall dimensions in check, for added sportiness. The engine is light itself, so that is a benefit too. Perhaps it is the perfect engine for this car! The flex fuel conversion has not been problem-free because of a simple problem. There is kind of a "ring" around the place you want to plug it in, preventing you from using the basic adapters and "opening" the pins for the connection, at least that is how I understood it. I brought it to a tuner and he showed me the unfortunate surprise. But now a special tool has been ordered, specifically for t-sports. Damn, they really do not want us to mess around with it, do they? :D The fuel injectors should be plenty for the conversion though, and of course ethanol loves high compression ratios, or was it something else it loves? Uh, I am pretty sure it is the ratios. I may add that when I have a surplus of cash, I will do a standalone ECU and make a few extra horses with the ethanol´s benefits. Maybe sport intake and exhaust too. I have heard you can quite easily surpass 200 hp. You just have to give it more air and let more gasses out :D But as for now, I only seek fuel cost benefits from the conversion, as it is much cheaper here in Finland. Even when you take into account the increased fuel consumption. I will report back here how the conversion goes and if my car explodes lmao!

@@teme5529 When I was looking into ethanol I ran into exactly the same thing you just mentioned with the alcohol-sensitive ring that causes the issues.I do really wish they made the car a bit more tuner-friendly, but that obviously would have let the intended reliability slip lol. Sounds like a good plan though man! A standalone ecu is a MUST if you'll be tuning the car. Are you going PFC? My plans are a little different but not completely! I'm thinking some suspension, PFC with Tune, and at that point I'd bite the bullet and get a turbo kit with forged internals for reliability. That's a ways down the road though! Still glad to hear another person is working on these babies! Can't wait to see what you do with it!
@teme5529
@teme5529 2 жыл бұрын
@@carboys568 Yeah, I have actually barely scraped the surface of the world of tuning, so I had to google the pfc, lol. So I must say I have not looked into it, what standalone ecu brand would do well. But I know it will be costly. Gotta be ready to spend 3000€+ And yes, when I seek power, I need the standalone ecu! Toyota ecu is angry and will erase all changes. :D And be ready to be spending some cash if you are going for reinforced internals, I guess. Have you considered the benefits/downsides of mechanical charging? Note that this is only my opinion, but the essence of the car is instant power. Turboing would eliminate the lift kicking in hard and immediately. The power curve would be soft. Also the turbo-build would consist of many components, and reducing the compression ratio would probably be a must, I guess. I think that if I want to charge it, I will go the supercharge-route. I think it is more reliable and simpler design. However, when money is not an issue, reinforced internals should do the trick. Turbo won´t be an issue anymore at that point! It makes more power than any other method! And yeah man, glad to talk about our cars like this! It is always useful to share tips and information.

Would you recommend the celica for a college student’s first car?
@carboys568
@carboys568 3 жыл бұрын
I definitely would. I had a Celica as my first car, they're good on gas for commuting, sporty enough to have fun without being dangerously powerful, and the hatchback makes moving things very easy. They also retain value pretty well and are reliable.
