Ignore the links for the brackets and harness! Buy whatever speaker you want from Crutchfield, and put in 22' Outback just as he said, and they'll throw in the bracket and harness for FREE!!!! I literally just purchased some Pioneer's for the front and rear, and I got front and rear brackets and harnesses for FREE!!!!

A quick tip, when door trims are off, buy roll of 5mm sound deadener and fix to inside of door skin. Will reduce road noise, increase bass and minimise vibrations. Also with standard speaker pod, a little silicone to make an absolute seal and increase bass response.

Thanks for the tip, I was considering getting some sound deadening and doing the inside of the doors later one. Thanks for watching.💪

...there are so many holes in a car door, the silicone around the speaker won't do much. There are the drain holes at the bottom and the really big one that surrounds the glass (inner and outer seals). The door is far from air tight. Best is to cover as much of the large access holes on the inner door skin to knock down some road noise. Even Subaru put rubber/foam pads over most of those sections to knock down the noise, but you can still cover the holes w/sound deadener (I leave about 1" at the bottom uncovered because it sits inside the vapor barrier and I still want the barrier to be able to breathe if water is in the door)

Agreed. Different car (2006 Outback XT.) Just before putting it up for sale, and knowing my demographic, I installed pretty basic RF speakers on clearance and a $99 under-seat sub. After 17 years, kicked myself for not doing it years ago! Sold it to a kid my son's age (18) and aside from "looks better in person!" next thing was "shit, that sounds great!!" Sold for asking price 20 minutes later. If you have a pretty basic audio system, upgrade speakers bare minimum.

Just installed the rear speakers finally, so now have the same speaker setup. On the rear after putting everything back together a found a quarter sized black disc on the floor (it was dark, so I hadn't seen it till after). I rewatched your video so I would know where it might go before pulling the door card back off, and it goes at the very back/middle (around knee height) of the door, into the clear plastic. Watch for these (and the foam washers) falling out.

love the video; hate the shaky camera. the trick is finding a shallow 6x9 (6x8) for the front. paper cones sound fine; it's the bits behind the cone that kill the sound - weak spiders, small coils, weak magnets, etc. Even w/paper, there should be no reason for poor sound w/all of our digital EQ tech and sound delay wizardry. The problem is getting Subaru (sound) engineers to do all of the measurements and write the correct algorithms into the headunit processor(s). And just because HK's name is on the uprated stereo, doesn't mean they took the time to design the system properly; they just made the components that fit into the space and met Subaru's design limitations. Good sound needs tuning and correction, especially in the car.

So the fronts are 6.5” but in a 6x9 baffle/adapter? I’m about to do mine, and probably some amps or even maybe a headless media player+amps system with some subs in the trunk. This Premium non-HK system sounds like crap. And, from the schematic, it looks like the Starlink system uses the front speaker for communication, a d if the Ohms of the replacement fnt door+tweeter doesn’t equal OEM Ohm raging, then it triggers a Starlink red light. Is that accurate? Where did u get the speaker harnesses from?

Hey man whats the sound quality on these speakers bass wise? And also what size are they? Are all 4 doors 6 or 6.5 inches? Thanks
@JDMRightHandDrive
@JDMRightHandDrive Жыл бұрын
The bass is much better than the stock paper speakers. The speakers are 6.5" as well. I cant find what RMS power is on the factory head unit, I think the factory head unit is under powered. These are a huge upgrade from the stock speakers and well worth the little bit of money they cost. I am considering upgrading stock head unit to a nice aftermarket double din and 4 channel amp. I want an adjustable EQ so I can really fine tune the sound. From there I will decide if I need a subwoofer.

so the rear needs to be soldered no matter what speaker brand you buy? Not plug and play like the front? Just wondering because I don't have a solder on hand
@JDMRightHandDrive

I soldered mine because I reused the OEM speaker bracket. with oem wiring. If you drill a hold in the OEM one, you can run wires through that way as well or purchase aftermarket speaker bracket and harness. That will be a direct plug and play. Good question and thanks for watching.

Totally unrelated question, but I noticed the kiddo’s booster seat. How’s their leg room back there? Any issues with them not having enough space for their feet / legs? Anything like that. Really looking hard at a 23 WRX, but I have a 6y/o in a backless booster, and I’m just kinda curious about how the ride would be for her (dealer near me is kinda being goofy about me throwing the booster in the back seat so she can go on the test drive).

What impedance are the factory speakers?
@RobHTech
@RobHTech 2 жыл бұрын
The tweeters are 4 Ohm, the fnt door are 2 Ohm, and the rear are 2 Ohm. If u Have Starlink and replace the fronts with different Ohm (tweet+door in parallel) then i have seen people reporting Starlink malfunctions and won’t play music out of front speakers. U can check OEMAudio+ website for replacements/specs and then do it. The speakers are garbage in my premium with 11.6” display. But the head unit is terrible source too. Subi said they are releasing an update next month that should fix the scratchiness. Mine sound like the door speakers came blown out straight from the factory. They are definitely getting replaced with pro audio speakers and I will likely start making videos on my channel, which right now has no videos. I also plan on putting a headless media unit and amplifiers and subwoofers in the car, and I hope to make some videos and start posting on my channel.

Were you concerned about the Subaru warranty issues with replacing speakers? That's still confusing to me. I may go with OEM Audio Plus speakers down the line if that's the case...
@jacobholt4164
@jacobholt4164 Жыл бұрын
The only thing you would void would be the speakers warranty that you just replaced, so I'm kinda confused what warranty you are worried about. There's really no difference between these and the OEM audio plus for amount of modification especially if you buy the adapter instead of cannibalizing's the housing.

I’ve done this with another car, using factory pods. Makes for a more oem style fit. Not that big a job.. sometimes buying aftermarket spacers can mean drill new holes so standard pods are a good option.

I have heard the stock head units on most new cars provide 20-25 rms per channel at most. This is why buying super expensive speakers that are rated for 45+ rms don’t give you their full potential unless adding an aftermarket amp. I plan to also buy some Rockford Fosgate Prime speakers (their entry low rms line) so that my stock head unit has no problem powering them and getting the most out of them.
