@@mattqueen8748 I bought my wife a new forester in 2016, and had zero issues with it as well. She is short and loved the visibility and handling. My neighbor was in management at the Subaru plant in Indiana, and I asked him about the new ascent, he said his daughter bought a new one and loves it, except for the tires that came with it. He said they wore out way to soon. He said he did a report on the tires to address the issue, not sure if this was corrected. My outback has just a four cylinder, not the fastest, but plenty of power for this old man…

I own the 22 Wilderness since they first rolled off the plant floor. Taken it offroad, and on already a dozen 500+ mile road trips. Fantastic vehicle. I'm especially loving all the modding parts that are available, and harden the vehicle even further. While there's few electronics quirks, the vehicle as a whole is what you pay for. In the mud, flooded roads, and snow, the wilderness is unstoppable.

Subaru is one of the best car manufacturers especially for DIYers. I bought my 2010 outback 3.6r new with 15 miles on it. 12 years and 350 days later I have 394k on it. Last seven years I put 250k miles from Uber/Lyft driving. Other tha. Replacing my front/rear end suspension twice and wheel bearings, the only major problem I’ve had was the TCM going out last January. Take care of them, do the schedule maintenance earlier than what manufacturers recommended, avoid having a heavy foot, find a local mechanic that specializes in Subarus and that thing will last for years. If you can, I highly recommend avoiding the dealer for your repairs/maintenance too.

The 2005 to ? Outback model years were known lemons. A friend had an '05, and always carried a code reader to clear the ECU. The code (forget exactly what was) was a mystery even for dealers; it would run fine after the code was cleared, and come back agai6 on at varying intervals. Purchased new, our 2006 OB started having mechanical issues at 50k miles; some of the many parts were replaced by me, others by the dealer. Even with regular oil changes, it started seeping oil at 90k miles (the dreaded Subaru curse: HEAD GASKETS!). At 149k miles, it required adding a quart every 400 miles, plus started "using" coolant. Traded it in for a 2017 which has been much better.

We have a 2021 Outback with 151K miles. Yes, 151K miles. Generally, mechanically, it's great. Though we did have to replace the timing belt at 110K miles and just had something called a "thermo valve" replaced as well. The electronics, however, suck. We've probably had four different sensors replaced. Overall, I would absolutely recommend an Outback. Previously, we had a 2017 Outback with 243K miles. I think we had to replace a front axle, and maybe the alternator. That car ran like a dream. With all the miles driven, we get the oil changed and tires rotated every 7K miles. That's really it for maintenance.

It’s his channel he can post what he wants & say what he wants. Rather he’s dissed CVT’s or TURBOS in the past doesn’t discredit his honest opinion of a vehicle. Just because a car has a CVT or TURBO doesn’t necessarily make it any less reliable. If you know how to give your vehicles a few minutes to warm up, use parking brakes, and follow maintenance recommendations anything can last. Scotty thank you for your honest opinion of any vehicle you review. I assure you it’s hell of a lot more honest than these POV drivers.

Beware the Limited, Touring and Wilderness level trims. There are serious bugs in the infotainment systems. At least 3 or 4 times per long road trip the integrated touchscreen system on my ‘21 Outback goes out, including navigation and Eyesight. Once recently my dash display (speedometer, odometer, etc.) went completely black for several minutes. I have two coworkers experiencing the same problems with their newer Outbacks. My sister’s ‘20 Limited Legacy also. The Premium and under trims aren’t having issues and the power trains on all trims are bulletproof as always, but the dealership says they can’t find the problem since they can’t reproduce it in the shop. Just a heads up.

Got a "regular" outback in 2020 and have 66,000 miles so far. Only issues were the central computer console. Had to replace the main processer / screen because it would do it's own thing and not allow us to change anything IE shutting the volume off or cranking it up, reset the maps etc. The other was with the driver side window not going up properly. Track had to be replaced, OK now. Plan on driving it until it drops.

The Wilderness is great. I drove one (a loaner) for three weeks while the dealer replaced half my 2011 Outback engine at 62,000 miles, including head gaskets, heads! (warped and had to be machined! engine never overheated), timing belt, and since they had it all apart I had them do water pump and the torque converter that was starting to exhibit the stalling behavior they extended the warranty for. Total, $6,120. So, another Subarau will be a hard sell for me. UPDATE 2023.04.11: After 2 months and calling 5 or more times I finally got a brief voicemail from "Customer Advocacy Dept." saying car is too old for Subaru to offer any "financial assistance." I didn't request any "financial assistance," I asked them to accept responsibility for their poor designs by sharing the cost. Such is today's market environment. Can you say, "Toyota?" 😀

It needed all new engine gaskets to replace the glue that was originally used, also consumed oil, got 21 MPG, needed CV joints, and also lots of other small problems. It was end of life and would cost more to repair than the car was worth. Replaced it last month with a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid with AWD which really gets 42 MPG and is several seconds faster to 60 than the Crosstrek.

They have annoying interior electronics. Radio comes on immediately so set Sirus radio to "0." Car shakes all the time when you look around because of their optical eye sensors. Annoying. The seat belt alarms doesn't give you even 10 seconds to get your car in the garage before it starts buzzing and then buzzing louder. Engine shuts down at intersections so it does tons and tons of starts which wears out the starter. It has issues.

Only complaint that we have is that the early CVT transmission puked on my son’s Outback at 103,000 miles and that is NOT a rebuildable transmission, $10k to replace!!! Was not a happy camper. The pre 2010 cars had no window frames and were noisy but easily got 30mpg and were torquey and quick!!! We still love them but only look for 2010-2013 as they still have a normal automatic transmission and the framed windows.
