The budget build on this truck is well under way. Eventually she will have wide beams, longer radius arms, coilovers, and much more travel, but for now, I just wanted to fit some bigger tires.
These leveling coils will fit any 1983-1997 Ford Ranger 4wd. The process for installing leveling coils on a 2wd i-beam truck is very similar. I explain the differences in the video.

Planning to add 33" tires (as you did) to replace the 31" tires I have now. Question: did the camber/castor work itself out before you got it fully aligned? Great video, but was wondering... I know you mentioned in the video that there shouldn't be much of a difference between the 4x4 & 2x4 Other than the bolt on the axle... EDIT after reading your other comment. 30 is probably the best you'll get on a 2wd with a leveling coil. Does the front sway bar delete give you independent front suspension? How does it help off road
@rayregnogarage
@rayregnogarage 3 жыл бұрын
The TTB is, by nature, an independent front suspension. But the sway bar delete allows the two sides to move even MORE independently. It's one of the first things I delete on an offroad truck. Basically, the sway bar limits some of the suspension travel to keep the truck level. By removing it, it allows the suspension to articulate more freely.

Nice! How did you get away with taller springs without taller shocks?
@rayregnogarage
@rayregnogarage 3 жыл бұрын
The shocks are too short for sure. When you droop out the front suspension, the beams are limited by the shock running out of length, but it's not really that bad. One of these days I'm gonna jack up the truck and measure how much down travel the beams have without the shocks installed and get a longer shock based on that measurement. It's just not super high priority at the moment. Lol. I'll make a video of it for sure.

Hey, what do you recommend for my ranger. I am wanting to level my front end up because it has a lot of rake. I have an 08 2wd single cab. Keys, new springs, or spring spacers?
@rayregnogarage
@rayregnogarage 2 жыл бұрын
look under the front of your truck. does it have coil springs? If yes, then the keys are not an option for you. That's only for the Rangers with torsion bar front suspension. If you have coils, I would not recommend a spacer lift. I'm not even sure those will work on those trucks anyway, You'd probably need to change the upper arms if you did that. But either way, I don't recommend coil spacers ever. Fabtech used to offer a 3" lift spindle and that's what I had on my 99 ranger for a little while. But I can't find them offered online anymore. Not even on the Fabtech website anymore. Fabtech is the cheapest lift kit I would recommend if you have coil springs. I offroaded these pretty hard and the only problem I had was the upper a-arm mount starting to tear. that's the weakpoint fabtechmotorsports.com/product/2-5-performance-system-w-performance-shocks-k2109/ If you don't have coil springs, then you can just turn the torsion bar with a wrench for free. but it will ride like crap if you crank it too high. I turned my torsion bars on my 2008 2wd enough to fit 32s and it was fine. didn't go too crazy with it. didn't need keys

so after you did this did you still have a problem with the camber? i saw on eBay you can get a set of drop brackets like for a Toyota or chevy and that fixes the camber?
@rayregnogarage
@rayregnogarage 4 жыл бұрын
It's not that bad actually. The leveling coils only lifted it 1.5" or so. I feel like my camber was more negative before I lifted it.The previous owner didn't really take care of the suspension on this thing. The axle locknuts were barely finger tight so the bearings were crazy loose. (Did you see this video? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9eqhpeInrmnhYk.html). The tires on it when I bought it were crazy worn out in weird angles. Right now the thing I'm dealing with is some weird toe out just on the passenger side. I think it's why the truck pulls hard to the right even with the new tires and brakes. I got the tie rod adjuster tool to fiddle with it, but haven't gotten a chance to yet. Will post a video when I do that. Honestly, I'm not TOO concerned with the camber. I've had two a-arm rangers before and I used to trash talk my i-beam friends about how terrible their bump steer and camber was. Weird camber on a beamed truck is just a thing to expect.
@idontknowanythingaboutcars896
@idontknowanythingaboutcars896 4 жыл бұрын
@@rayregnogarage yeah idk what happened to mine but the thing has positive camber yet the front springs are really tired giving it a awkward stance🤔 yet it seems to drive fine on trails and on back roads. I've experienced worse trucks before but I'm really not a fan of the tbt I beams
@rayregnogarage
@rayregnogarage 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry. Forgot to answer your other question about the drop brackets. The Toyotas and Chevy's use a a-arm setup like the 98+ rangers. I've seen the drop bracket lifts on the Toyotas, Chevys but I'm not a fan. I've had friends with drop brackets on their beam trucks and they weren't very good either. Best way to lift a beam truck is with longer springs, extended radius arms and extended beams. They help keep the camber more consistent as the wheels travel up and down. That's odd to have so much positive camber with sagged out springs. Were they always like that?

I have 2” leveling kit blocks that sit under the springs that I haven’t installed, but I’m also looking at the rough country spring you installed in your truck, what do you recommend? Also when I do add the leveling kit will Monroe shocks slide in there just fine or do I need to find a specific set of shocks ?
@rayregnogarage
@rayregnogarage 2 жыл бұрын
If they are the same springs the truck came with from the factory, they're probably old and tired and possibly sagging to the point that the truck is lower than it was new. Spacers will only lift from the current height. New springs are NEW and will be an upgrade from the factory spring in my opinion. I'm not a fan of spacer lifts. I think that Rough Country sells a shock specifically for 1-2" of lift. I'm still running the 26 year old factory shock with the lift and it has been fine. haha. I keep meaning to pull the shocks off and cycle the suspension to see what length shock to get. I'd rather get a Bilstein. Right now, the drop of the truck is definitely limited by the shorter shock. The suspension will cycle more in the down travel direction when the shock is off.

The gen 3 Ranger is a fair bit easier and cheaper to lift . All you need is a new torsion key , or if you're really cheap just crank up the original key . Mine is a 2 wheel drive but it has the 4 wheel drive suspension , I'm not sure but I think only the Edge model Ranger is like that . Mine is the 4 liter V6 and it's fast enough that I can't imagine V8 swapping , that would be overkill for a 3000 pound truck .
@rayregnogarage
@rayregnogarage 3 жыл бұрын
The Edge was offered from 2001-2005. 2006 to 2011 it was known as the Sport. I owned a 2007. Yes, you can lift it by cranking the torsion bar. You don't need to buy a key, a standard socket will do it. I did it to mine. The problem with a t-bar crank is that you lose downtravel as a result of preloading the suspension. Fine if you want a lift for aesthetics but not a good solution if you actually want to off road it. I cranked mine tall enough to fit a 32" tire without needing fenders or trimming. I would not recommend cranking any higher than that. It will ride like garbage and puts more wear on the ball joints.

Hey i have a 94 ranger and i was just wondering what the purpose was of deleting the sway bar, i have little knowledge about it and was wondering the pros and cons
@rayregnogarage

Cons: More body roll on the street; need to be careful on sharp turns to avoid rolling it. Possibly more uneven tire wear. Pros: Allows the suspension to cycle more independently meaning your tires stay on the dirt when going over uneven surfaces. Removing the sway bar provides better offroad performance. You can get quick disconnects if you want to keep the sway bar for the street, but I I don't really care to deal with that. lol

I’m curious on that myself because my lift isn’t as tall as I’d like and I’m wondering if the sway bar is holding the beams a little higher than they should, because there’s no drop link with a leveling kit. So the beams have to be slightly compressed to be able to get the swag bar to line up. In theory.. I’ll be taking mine off to see probably next weekend.
@rayregnogarage
@rayregnogarage 3 жыл бұрын
@@chrissagredo7129 The sway bar isn't affecting the ride height or amount of lift you're getting from the spring. All the sway bar is limiting is the downtravel of the beam when the suspension cycles. When you jack the truck up without the sway bar and unload the suspension, you'll notice the tires will droop lower because it's not limited by the sway bar. You'll also notice it on uneven terrain or while driving over a hole. The tire will stay in contact with the ground rather than immediately be hanging in midair.
