just picked one up today and had it installed. It was working when I left the installer’s shop but after only 2 hours it had stopped working and didn’t heat the water past 30 degrees. What a piece of you know what. FYI - running it on 12V

wow thats no good, we've been using ours every day for 6 months now with no issues at all. I assume you had the digital control set to something higher than 30 (on the end of the tank)? have no clue why it would stop at 30, maybe email/call ausj themselves and see what they say?

Great video! Do you have a link to the connectors/elbows you’re using for the hose connection of the heater?

Hi Tim, Thanks for the kind words. The elbows straight off the heater were purchased from the link below (hope it allows me to link). I'll put a link in the description to the main page with a wise selection of john guest fittings and hoses. Also i have no affiliation with caravan plus, just used them as they had reasonable prices. www.caravansplus.com.au/jg-watermark-bent-tap-connector-12mm-push-on-to-12-inch-female-bsp-p-17554.html

Great video - thankyou. I'm about to put this model in my van too. I'm still a bit confused about the pipe sizes though. With a 1/2 bsp outlet, what size connectors and piping did you use? The link suggests you used 12 mm pipe but 1/2 bsp seems to suggest more like 20mm?
@berko79
@berko79 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words Stephanie. I did a bad job of explaining it. Basically the outlet is a 1/2inch BSP and then i used an adapter to change it from BSP to the 12mm john guest hose. I am pretty sure the ones i used were: www.caravansplus.com.au/jg-12mm-push-on-to-12-inch-female-bsp-fitting-p-6981.html as the fittings on the tank are male 1/2inch BSP. Hope this helps and if you have more questions feel free to let me know

Oh also - we've been using this hot water for 3 months (living on the road) and it is working really well. I'm actually surprised these units are not more popular as lots of vans are now going gasless (12v only vans)

Great video, thanks. After the install did you have to prime the heater or did it automatically fill when the pump was turned on?
@berko79
@berko79 8 ай бұрын
Cheers for tuning in. Yeah i just made sure i switched the pump on and had the mixer set to hot and let it run until i had water coming out of it. I did this before i switched the water heater on to try and heat water.

Great video 👍 could you actually heat it quicker by using an inverter to heat up with 240? Maybe it would use more amps?
@berko79
@berko79 Жыл бұрын
Yeah you are right i've done it a couple of times by mistake - plugged the van into the inverter and then wondered why the inverter was sounding like it was going to take off (fans going nuts). It uses substantially more amps at 12v heating by 240v. Both the inefficiencies of the inverter but more the speed and energy which the 240v element can heat with.
@geoffstein3896
@geoffstein3896 Жыл бұрын
@@berko79 so it uses more amps trying to heat it with 12v than it does when you switch the inverter on and heat it with that? After a few months how do you rate it? We have a basic Jayco and I was looking at a hot water option myself for showers and also hot water for the sink for washing up etc, I was looking at an coleman quacube. The unit you have would probably be better as it could stay in the van, but there is my wife and I plus 2 kids not sure we'd all get a shower from that you think? Thanks
@berko79
@berko79 Жыл бұрын
@@geoffstein3896 sorry might have confused you with my previous comment but it uses about 3 times the amps on 240v through the inverter but is almost 3 times as quick to heat. We love this unit. Been travelling for 3 months now and having a quick easy way to take showers and not having to heat up dish water is so good. So far so good and I'd be happy to recommend this to anyone thinking of adding hot water to a van.

@@berko79 thanks Berko. I might look into one then because to be able to have hot water at the sink after dinner and breaky to wash up would be so handy especially if getting it straight from the tap, and I could install a external shower on the side of the van... My daughter would more than likely use all of the water but as I have to chase her out of the shower at home all of the time! I'll have to read the specs by the sounds of it if I use some of the stored 10L it won't automatically refill what was taken out, I'd have to use all of the 10L before it would refill.
@berko79
@berko79 Жыл бұрын
@@geoffstein3896 it actually refills as you use it so while 10l doesn't sound like heaps of hot water you probably get a lot more of shower temperature water. Also you mix the hot water as it's used in the shower. For washing up we like nice hot water so we almost use that at the tank temperature. Worst case you might have to give 20 mins to let the water heat back up between showers.

😅 ur killing me. I really wasted too see how you wired it for 12v. The switch iscreally what I'm interested in... its a weird one. They sayb to use the large black wires to connect the unit to the battery bank. No prob. Then they mention the switch. Now. Does the switch effectively cut all power to the unit or just cut the unit off from being heated up etc. Im so confused lol... lastly they call for a 50a fuse in the doc. That is ridiculous. You should call out that you used a 25 or 30 .. give a brother some help here...?
@berko79
@berko79 Жыл бұрын
Haha, sorry I did kind of skip over the wiring deliberately as wire size and things is a bit different for each setup (depens on the length of the wire and things - people get easily confused). For mine i used 6AWG wire with a 40 amp fuse. I agree with you 50amp fuse is probably way overkill and you could probably get away with 30 amp. I have however seen low 20s amp draw from my battery so you couldnt use a 20 amp. For the switch, yes it turns off the 12v power to the heater. It does this only when there is 12v through the thin red wire and -ve on the black. I wired mine by attaching the large negative and small negative together then simply switch 12v on the small red. The switch is very very useful for us as some very overcast days we might still do our hot water on the stove. Any other questions yell out and i'll do my best to help

@@berko79can you do another vid to clearly explain the switch wires and the 12v wiring?! I am in the USA, have had the heater for a year and haven’t used it because can’t get good instructions on the wiring?! Come on DUOETTI?!!! I don’t have a 240 plug…can I just set that aside and only wire the 12v?

You sure can just wire it up as just 12v - Somehow i missed this comment earlier. Let me see if i can do you a quick video of the wiring this week. Its not that complicated. I'll comment back here once i've uploaded.
