These videos are always good to look at before you have a go at our own. What I found most interesting is that twice as many people have watched the removal than the refitting. There must be at least 50 VStar owners without their rear wheel fitted hahahahah!

Glad it helped. Remember when installing sometimes when you tighten the axle nut the Mark's could shift a bit, so be sure to double check them . Also double check the belt alighnment.

Your next Video. Changing the coolant on your Deluxe. What fun! Yet until I saw what it took to just change the battery on my friends CanAm, I started overlooking the small difficulties of my Deluxe.

Yes.... imagine that must have been a headache. I bet the dealer charges a nice penny. The coolant is not too hard. There is a good write up on the vstar1300wiki. They even go into flushing the system. Not a bad write up.

Hi Bruce thanks for all your videos which I watch with interest. My question is:- although you used the 10lb gauge to check the deflection of the drive belt, have you found a quick method for checking the rear axle alignment? The reason I ask this is because I set my rear axle position according to the adjacent marks, but the drive belt wasn't centrallised on the pulley. After much frustration, I took the bike to the Yamaha dealer who explained the marks are only a guide and adjusted it for me. They started the bike, put it in first gear, and as they turned the adjusters, the belt moved accordingly. I wondered therefore whether you had a special tool. Regards from Paul in UK
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 5 жыл бұрын
Interesting to hear how they do it. No I had no special tools for doing this. My belt always tended to track toward the left. I usually would use the string method to help with alignment which has been somewhat of a guide. I even tried the no hands method which ended up with the bike tracking straight, the Mark's being about 2 big Mark's apart. Brake side further forward than clutch side. I found the string method helped me best so far to get it close. I will have to try starting the bike and putting it in gear to see what the belt does. Hmm. Will look into that.

Thanks for this video especially the tightening specs can you give me the front sprocket tightening specs, I just bought this bike and previous owner had WAY over tightened the belt and destroyed the bearings in the rear sprocket hub in turn destroying the hub and the somehow loosening the front sprocket. I can't find that spec on the inter web can you help?

I don't know if this link will work , but you can give it a shot. drive.google.com/file/d/1rrWUmZlwwNnSUyKyxEHEuh1_yVM38YiM/view?usp=drivesdk You can download the service manual from that link , and on page 4-72 you will see the tq specs. Your going to want to replace that nut also that holds it on. If the link does not work , Google vstar1300wiki then go to the files section, and download the vstar 1300 service manual. You will need to press the rear brake to tourque the nut down. Don't forget the loc tite. I set the rear belt tension to "just" loose of the factory spec. Hope this helps. Any questions , just ask.

the break arm is always a pain haha .. Did you have to remove the tire to get to bolts for the back luggage carrier you mentioned in the last video ? need 3 or 4 arms some times to get the darn rim lined up haha . The Belt adjustment is the same on the harley . Take Care
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 5 жыл бұрын
No to needing to remove the tire to get to the bolts. I pulled the wheel to check my rear wheel bearings, but they were fine . Some guys had issues with toolbags over tightening the axle nut. Mine were fine though. I just figured I'd film the process for a how to. I've read the manual so many times , it's almost 2nd nature at this point. Lol Thanks for watching brother.

When I removed my rear tire the chain sprocket came off and all the spacers came out. Now I can’t get them all in tight enough to allow enough room to get everything back together. Any tips on making the spacers for better?
@dbest1aVlogs

In the video I use a soft mallet hammer n lightly tap on the lug nuts. It should fit right back in assuming the rubber shock spacers are in right as they came out.

In manual it will give you 2 listed specs. One for on the kickstand, and other for bike on a lift rear tire in the air. You can run either, but stay to the looser side of the spec.

Do you adjust the belt to the index lines with the inside edge of the belt or the outside (flat side) of the belt ?
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs Жыл бұрын
If u took a photo of marks before disassembly or marked with a marker then just reassemble. Otherwise I usually loosen both adjustments and axle bolt. Spin the back tire till and adjust till belt tracks as center as possible. Then I check marks , adjust belt tension to close to spec but a little kn the loose side. Then tighten back up.

Hey Bruce why wouldn't you want grease on the axle threads? I always lightly grease mine to help with road salt/gunk buildup. Just curious on your thoughts.
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 5 жыл бұрын
Nathan LaBrie I was told it would mess with the torque readings. I’ve never undone that bolt and found gunk in there though. The only thing I put on threads is loctite, but I don’t use that on the axle bolt. Thank you for watching Nathan

@@dbest1aVlogs Fair enough didn't think about torque. For that your right a wet torque isn't the same. Guess it's a through back to my motocross days trying to keep gunk build up and rust off the main faseners. Guess 6 of one half a dozen of the other. I'll keep that in mind in my battle with corrosion.

@@dbest1aVlogs Can't really see how a bit of grease could effect the torque readings when the amount of torque required is not really that low. But just wondering...
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 5 жыл бұрын
It does make me think. What about torque it down , then put grease over the torqued unit. I think that would have the same result right.
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 5 жыл бұрын
The rear bolt TQ is 110 ft lbs. I can't remember where I saw it, must have been deploys garage... he stated adding grease to the threads creates a resistance, and throws off the torque reading. So you would get a false reading of 110 ft lbs due to the grease. If it's TRUE... I dunno, but I know a lot of his videos have been very factual.
