How to install WD_Black SN850 and check speeds

Күн бұрынThis is a video to show you how to install the WD_Black SN850 NVMe drive both in terms of hardware and the installation in Windows 10.
The process for installing is really easy but may vary depending on your motherboard - some have heatsinks and different screw setups. It's also worth checking your manual as you may find that not all the drives work the same way.
You do not need to remove your motherboard from the case to do this, but please unplug it and use appropriate anti-static equipment.

Great video, very helpful. Just a query regarding the SN850x + heatsink I am not getting any interface speed on the WD Dashboard. It just comes up not supported? Current speed read is 6969, write is 6266 approximately is this setup correctly as I can see anything within the BIOS. My PC is a Dell XPS 8950.

hi greate video, i have a problem with my setup - on an Asus X570-e motherboard - after I install the ssd correctly as you also showed, when i power on the machine it gets stuck in the pre bios screen - i can't go into bios as delete or F2 do not work and there is nothing I can do - if I restart it I am stuck on the same screen, after powering off the pc and removing the M2 ssd the PC is back to normal - can you give some clues to what is the issue and how can I resolve it?

Did you have to enable the m.2 slots at all when doing windows install or were they already enabled? so I saw that how you mentioned, you only got 6500 mb/s of read speed, is there any way to increase this to the promised 7k? maybe turning it onto gaming mode will increase this? I'm sorry, I'm new to computers and I'm just trying to learn everything I can about them.

Thoughtful & detailed Vid as always Prawn. I just installed a WD_Black SN850X into an Aurora R8 through the PCIe 4X port on the MB. Glowtrends M.2 to PCIe 4x Adapter. You're vids made it a breeze. However, when running WD Dashboard is says the Interface Speed is not supported... - it see's the drive and I was able to update the firmware and enable game mode. I reads the temp of the card in real time. 41/c 105/f. Any ideas why it would read interface speed not supported?

I encounter some confusion immediately, the drive is already blue in disk management, I can right click on it but all the options are greyed out. I can see it in my bios, wd dashboard and device manager

had to find a super skinny screw that would go into the standoff. everything talks about m.2 but i'm pretty sure the screw i managed to use was much skinnier. x570 a pro mobo.

This is going to sound ridiculous, but here it goes. I've been sat looking at the box of this very same ssd. I don't know if my eyes are going funny but I'm concerned that my SSD looks too small. I'm yet to try and install it, because im too nervous at thinking it doesn't seem the right size. Are there diferent sizes? I'm intending to install it to a MSI Z490 Gaming Edge. I have a bad feeling I've screwed up and possibly bought the wrong one. I don't suppose you would know? It's been so long since building my last PC that I fear I may have misunderstood some technical aspects that to everyone else would just be by the numbers.

There are different sizes but usually you'll find there are various stand off screw placements so you can fit any size on your motherboard.
