I have the Dremel drill press accessory, which I prefer as I tend to use my regular drill press over my bench grinder for full size buffing. I also use masking tape over areas I don’t want buffing because I'm not the most precise due to upper body difficulties. Besides for the music drowning you out at the beginning a very useful video, thank you.

Please don’t throw the pads out after using them. Put them in a laundry/underwear bag and wash them on a delicates program and air dry them. Joy can’t also use a metal brush on your dremel and get the dirt of the pads. It’s just money out the window to throw them out after using it for just one time.

Don't re-use pads that have had abrasives on them. Doesn't matter if you wash them with a power washer, there will always be grit contamination. Imagine polishing something at 1000 grit and a single piece of 180 grit carbon finally falls into place and gouges your work.

Nice how-to video. Compound on a microfibre cloth works too, but you were showing us how to polish with a Dremel, so you are bang on topic. My only criticism is that you were standing on the wrong side of the machine. When you get a catch, as you did with the buffing soap, it's going to fly toward you or your face . Standing on the other side leaves it to fly down, which is safer. Also easier to steady the piece.

When I put buffing wheels on the screw mandril they stop spinning almost immediately. That is, the mandril spins but the moment the pads encounter resistance they stop spinning. They should work because the thread is contra the tool spin direction so resistance should tighten the pad. But they just get reamed out. Med to low speed even. Any idears?
@ElTurbinado6 жыл бұрын

@jjmccloud5 жыл бұрын
I agree with the other answer. Is it possible u over tighten the pad cause it doesn't take but a half turn to tight and then it's to loose on the bit. Sometimes on the thicker pads I'd u do overtighten u can flip it around and get some grab going through the other side. It's either that or your applying to much pressure to the pad when buffing

do these screw on type polishing pads stay on well enough when applying a bit of pressure? I'm just wondering if its better to look for the fixed type of polishing wheel rather than the type you have here.
@koriko885 жыл бұрын
No, this kind actually sucks. They work for a minute, but if you use them with halfway decent pressure or real speed, the screw rounds out the inside pretty quickly and they just start spinning. To avoid frustration, use the kind with a fixed core and the pad attached to the outside. You get what you pay for.

Can i make high relief drawings in steel with these?
@ScrollsawVideo4 жыл бұрын
No, these are for polishing only. You may want to check out some rubber bits or even pointed grinding stones. Thanks for watching.

How do you make it not streaky? Whenever I polish metal with this set up, the polishing wheel leaves a trail wherever it hits. Even after I completely polish over the surface evenly, it looks like I scribbled all over it if that makes sense. The wheel doesn't polish evenly and just streaks everywhere. Kind of like when you fill in a area on paper with an ink pen. The area is all the color of the ink now but if you look carefully you can see all of the scribble lines the pen made into the paper.

Verify this; I believe the streaks are from using too much compound, use sparingly and frequently. You should be able to detect when you need to reapply more compound. Don't apply to much to the polishing wheel. I haven't seen anyone mention it yet so verify this as well; the different color bars indicate size of the grit/particles in the wax. It is the grit that does the polishing, the wax is just to hold the grit and get it onto the wheel.

Hi Karl, could you tell me if the Dremel multi vise will work with a Wen rotary tool model#2305?
@ScrollsawVideo4 жыл бұрын
Since the main connection is the tool housing and not the actual tool threads, I cant see where it would not fit. You should be good on this one. Thanks for asking.

Mine strip faster and turn black...am I doing something wrong?

Usually means your tool is spinning too fast or you're applying too much pressure, instead of evenly applying the wax/compound to the surface you're melting and "burning" it, find an old piece of metal and test your wheel on that, find what's right for you setup and for you
