Here's my tutorial on how to jump a horse! Jumping is one of the most fun aspects of horseback riding, but it can be intimidating at first. In this video, I walk you step-by-step through how to jump a horse.

I really needed this! Also I saw when Tucker took a small step and moved you didn’t pull on the rains or anything like a lot of riders I have seen do. You just let him be. I love that you did that and Ik it’s small and not very important but so many people mistreat their horses and some pull very harshly when they move and you didn’t do it!

I do need to mention, in cross rails while we may see the lowest point and think horses do as well, horses see the jump as a straight line across. So really they’re seeing the jump at a good foot higher than we may think - and you can see it when watching a horse jump a cross rail. But this also makes them good beginner jumps! Also when tucker took a little small step, a lot of people would of just yanked the reins but you didn’t, it’s like a breath of fresh air ❤

This was really helpful! I've actually been riding for over 11 years, but I've mostly done huntseat, saddleseat, and dressage, so I just never felt the need to learn to jump. I figured it's about time now, so I'm having my first jumping lesson at a new barn in a week! This gave me an idea of what to expect.. thank you!

This is great, thank you! I've been riding forever but I still lack so much confidence when it comes to jumping. One thing my trainer always reminds me of is to keep my leg on, regardless of how forward the horse feels during the approach. I have not yet ventured into distance and stride, but it's coming.

Can you make/do you have a video on recovering confidence after being thrown? The gelding I ride tested me and reared trying to get rid of me. I stayed on, but got thrown later in the round pen. I’ve been thrown other times too when I had my own horse a number of years ago and it’s been a struggle to enjoy riding again.

Lots of people don't understand how safe horses are when they are trained naturally and given plenty of choices in their training. It helps if they have plenty of time out in the field and get on with horses they like and have kind people only around. This kind of jumping is so much fun and the horses LOVE it as long as you are sensible and you enjoy it too. If you start on the ground and take your time it's extremely obvious that it would be quite easy if you can ride to hop on and go over the jumps on the horse and the horse would be quite happy even will no saddle or bridle. Often with me I can't be bothered to get one. For insurance reasons I wear my riding hat or to shut people up I wear one if they would be offended. Fie big jumps I wear a hat and if the horse isn't in the best mood I put one on too. Beginners should wear one and probably kids but all over the world people don't wear hard hats on horses so we must not be rude to people who don't have riding hats , saddles or bridles its offensivetl to othet countries!!!!!! 😊

Thank you so much! Recently I went to Blackpool and when I got back my mum needed to go Aldi so she left me and my step dad in the car and I said “I might have to search some riding schools up soon” and my step dad said he knew a place! Riding farm equestrian centre. Great breakfast and people there so when my mum got in the car I told her about it and she said I can do some research on it when we got back home so when I got back I searched up the place and saw so many nice reviews I knew this one was good so the next night I started doing some homework on it and you helped me know what I need too know, so, thank you so much!

I would say move your hand up on the horses neck and ots ok that the reins will loosen and it will allow the horse to move more freely. Also maybe ajust your stirrups up higher or lower and see if that helps your balance
