8:16 Yeaaah this was me, I picked up Strive as my first fighting game ever, played it for a year straight getting good and with the season change I just kinda started to lose my momentum and started blaming the beasts, I needed a break so I picked up playing SF6, Granblue, UNI 2, and yeah omg fighting games are fun! And eventually (once the 3v3 mode comes out) I'll get back on the Strive train. Great video, now I'm motivated to get even stronger!

I initially thought it would be the smartest to stick to one fighting game at a time so I can get better at that game faster. But no, playing multiple at a time is just so much more fun and better and keeps you from getting burnt out.

My motivation is to Beat Up my friends in the games we play. One thing I found out is that I never played a Guilty gear game I played everything else (personal favorite is Skullgirls 2nd encore). Til Strive came out, and I and two of my friends got it. i wasn't good, like at all none of us were, but after months of beating each other up and playing Baiken a lot. I went online cause I was bored one day and played VERY GOOD. Who knew getting Heavenly Bustered countless times would make me good at Guilty gear

Such a breath of fresh air in approach and mentality. Gave me a personal conclusion to challenge myself by finding answers instead of making excuses. Might not have the time to grind as I used to, but at least giving myself the ability to figure out and "troubleshoot" my experiences would get me to where I wanna be as a player. Thank you for quality content GekkoSquirrel, community needs mentality like yours~

this video came to me at the perfect moment. i was getting frustrated at being stuck on floor 6-7. I'd constantly find flaws, but i could never focus on fixing any, instead just hoping I'd remember in the moment. I immediately clicked on this video, and halfway through, opened guilty gear to apply what you were saying (watching more of it between matches) i decided to focus on one specific improvemnt i could make. I'd make sure i remembered it by making a list on steam. this way i had constant access and could change it if needed. In three hours i've done what I couldn't in twenty. I'm now solidly on floor 8.

Gotta say ggst was my first Fighting game I got like 90 hours of Playtime and after trying character and playing Anji and Asuka about 20-25 hours each I got to playing Leo and omg I am still bad but I enjoy the game but for me the "casual" matches against my friends are for me probably my biggest motivation as I want to win against them but I lately got a new motivation and that motivation is to get good at Leo and getting the most out of the character( I wanna learn to use his full potential) but to say it I couldn't care less about my rank in the battle tower

Me: Lives in a country where there's barely something like a major and it's just Tekken Has no artistic skills Has no time to even try to do cosplay Has little interest for the lore in most games Still suck even in casual matches Yesterday I was thinking of playing some Granblue Rising but I was too tired after work and dozed off so I watched something instead. I'm screwed, probably.

For SF6 especially, there are already ingame tournaments in the battlehub every midweek/weekend. Those are great for building confidence outside of actual locals and regionals (online and offline). I got 0-2 in CPT offline premiere, got 1-2 in the subsequent online premiere. My motivation is to become a better player, pick up a new character and do better next year.

I'll be honest, as much as I like fighting games, it's also the one genre I often feel the most demotivated to play. I've been playing fighters on and off for something like 20 years now and I'm still complete garbage at them. I've been trying to get better lately but it's been a strangely harder time than I anticipated. Of course, there's the whole "I'm bad" self pity thing. It's hard to want to continue doing something if you don't feel like you're progressing, or having fun with the progression. But then there's the fact that I grew up liking the wrong fighters. Either they are fighters that nobody cares about ("Chaos Code", "Daemon Bride", "Nitroplus Blasterz", "Million Arthur", etc), I failed to properly connect with ("Skullgirls", "MB: Type Lumina", etc), or are actively hated by the FGC ("DNF Duel", "BBTAG", etc) if not outright despised and demonized ("Arcana Heart"). It's somehow a struggle for me to find a fighter to just play with others around my skill level. The only fighter I even have to play offline with IRL friends is "Skullgirls"...and most matches just devolve into me being a punching bag. So the only enjoyment I've had is to, as the video put it, go for achievements. Well, trophies in my case. And sadly, once I'm done with that, that's often the last time I ever touch most of these fighters. Sometimes I'll do combo trials but even those only go so far, especially given how impractical they usually tend to be. At the start of this year, I've been trying to put a concerted effort in getting better, whenever I find the time for it between responsibilities and all the other stuff I've been playing. Aside from playing, I've been watching match footage, taking notes of certain situations that I struggle with, practicing them, and just trying to replicate tactics one step at the time in actual matches. I've primarily been focusing on "GBFVR" (Zooey main) and "UNI2" (Mika main) and it's a hard struggle. Though I only have like 600 and 300 matches respectively so far. I'm not sure I'm even having fun but I keep telling myself to continue cause it gotta change at some point. Unfortunately, it's looking like the skill floor for "GBFVR" especially already has risen high enough that I'm on the cusp of getting weeded out. I just can't keep up anymore. Of my latest session of 100 matches, I not only lost like 70% of them, most of those were complete washes on my end. I'm just not sure what I should be doing anymore. And all this doom posting is no doubt annoying for everyone and tiring for myself.

Clicked on the video cus funny Virgil Meme but in all seriousness even though I play A LOT of different fighting games I know I won't be good at every single one, but I want to be "Mid" or halfway decent at them even though I sound like crazy person trying to master like 5 or more different fighting games. Again maybe "Master" isn't the right word but like the earlier word being "Mid" but I honestly loving playing fighting games for the story or character most of all and want play these game and characters because I love or connect with them in way that I personally enjoy. I just have to keep the motivation up in each game I play as I know I'm going to get my butt whooped with jumping between different fighting games periodically, but I like playing different fighting game even if having a main game being Granblue Fantasy Rising but been try to get back into KOF and even Pokken and others because I remember having fun with them. And sometimes I know winning isn't everything, but you feel good knowing you know what you're doing in the game that you can hold your own even if you aren't the best at them and winning just adds a little icing on the cake.

I think grandblue did the best at motivating its players like they do lock some of the colors and weapon skins but this is all so you can grind the game, level up and earn them and even though I hated grandblue versus rising initially getting that final mystery item kept me coming back. And now I love the game after learning how it works and my character (s+ rank charlotta). Also not every one can go to tournaments like myself for example so ranked is my tournament

What I struggle with is finding a main and just a playstyle overall. I convince myself over and over that I like to rush in but I don’t want to press buttons, or I like big numbers. But when I try any character like that I run away and try to get away. This worked in lower levels but not in higher ones, so should I try a zoner in like strive or something? I am going to say my play-style so here’s that if you wanna read it: So I like neutral a lot and to keep my opponents guessing what I’ll do next while being safe. I also run and try to hit my opponent with long normals. I can’t do combos like at all and whenever I try I fail immediately so combos are a big no for me. Mobility for me is an issue because I don’t want the character to be too slow but not super fast either. I’m not exactly patient either so I don’t like waiting around and not doing stuff.

But what happens if you dont do tournaments? My goal is to reach the top of ranked and play at a higher level. The issue is burnout comes easier im hard stuck in plat 5/diamond in sf6. The burnout got so bad i switched to tekken 8. Tbh its difficult to find that motivation in either but thats the hand im dealt with. Win=fun lose=not fun.

1:15 in other words . weakness. We have gotten to a point where people will play games that are designed to be bad so they can get their digital dogtreats each day so they can try a gatcha. We have gotten to a point where people will PAY for extra homework in form of battlepasses so they have something to do in their mid games. Buying Fomo is something else man. a good game should be so good that the only reason you need to play them is that the game is so good. and THAT is fighting games. no nonsense just constant interaction

I usually go to the park to have the "games don't matter" mindset, but that leaves Ranked as my "games do matter" games. Doesn't help that there are so many floor 10's and celestials in the park, while I'm a measly floor seven. Trying out new characters in the park do still help though.

strive is my first fg and then it plummets to me owning several titles of fg all of them having some 2 to 5 odd hours on them. my main title rn is granblue and its cuz of the battle pass ngl. idk why im the BP guy but i always grind those out knowing the finish line is me spending money for in game cosmetics. but its always my motivator. even rn im grinding a battle pass in several games, some close to completion. sad part is knowing that i will finish it and then having no drive to come back and play it because i have no incentive to (sorry granblue, i got my waifu jpeg skin) (siege plz update already ffs i need content). but im hoping more future FG will do the BP thing cuz then itll incentivize me to play the game.

Just venting here Finding motivation is hard even for someone that does not care at all for win/loss, i just hit walls after wall and don't ever see myself improving. It's so frustrating seeing people improve so easily while I can't move past certain point, and people saying "just go train" or "play more" ruin my day because i have tried doing this for a long time and never saw any improvement. What makes this all the more frustrating is that this applies to everything i do in life. I have a friend that met in a rhythm game that i had been playing for half a year, he had just started out and was confused with everything so i helped him undertand the game and get some levels. Two weeks later we chat in-game and he asks me what level im currently on, i say i was still in the same level and he didn't believe it. He had improved way past my level with less than 1/8 of my playtime. I've grown used to it, but sometimes i just wish i was a normal person.

If you don't feel like playing a game - just don't play it. It's simple as that. Don't force yourself. They are not running anywhere, and you'll feel better if you take long breaks. unless you're a streamer/youtuber with a patreon; or a signed competitive player, you are most likely not paid for playing a fighting game.
