Something so simple makes a lot of difference.....I am not sure if it the same cast on (think so) swear I was taught to go through the back of the loop not straight through........your way is easier and the simple part of not pulling tight till you are through the middle so simple but needed you to show me then the lightbulb goes off!!!! I've used this cast on for a very long time, but I also use a size bigger needle for the working yarn when casting on for gloves or socks, for a smidgeon more ease. As I am a British style knitter [yarn in the right hand flicking technique] I make the stitches with the yarn in the same orientation as I would if just knitting regular stocking stitch, so is this the same [anticlockwise] as you do in continental knitting, or should I be making a twisted knit stitch? That said, a twisted knit stitch might be advantageous when knitting a twisted 1 x 1 rib for the cuff of a sock or glove?

The answer to that is a definite maybe. In some patterns you can safely interchange cast ons and in others the cast on is integral to the pattern. The only way to know is to try it out I am afraid.

This is the bind off i used all the time i liked the looks of it but i started doing the Chinese Waitress bind off and i like it so much more and it looks a lot better and it matches real good with the stretchy by bind off. The cast on looks like a row of V's on the front and back.

My Cast on/Bind off book has that one in it but I haven't tried it out. I guess I have to now!
