I learned how to do a (nearly invisible join the way Cindy Bice explained from the book circular knitting workshop but prefer this new way. The two stitches when swapping places even after tightening down looked a tad sloppy but when adding an extra st & passing it over it really was invisible! Thank you!!!.

I simply knit the first stitch from the left needle with the 'tail 'and then continue to knit with the ball of wool. This ensures they don't separate. I then sew the tail in at the end.

From the looks of this, this only works for the long-tail cast-on. When I cast on, I have a tail at one end of the circular needles and the working yarn at the other end of the circular needles. I've tried doing the long tail, but my fingers just don't work that way.

Watching this method, it looks like the extra stitch you cast on that you will slip over is at the END of the cast on. How will this work if the cast on is done as an open-closed Estonian/Latvian cast on where the nature of the cast on creates a natural extra stitch at the BEGINNING of the cast on. How would this change anything about this technique for making an invisible join in the round?

I understood what you are doing.I know it's not the same. I just can't see the extra step when you can just trade places, snug the ends and go on knitting and have it come out the same. I don't have as much time to knit as I would like and every minute counts. If you don't mind doing an extra step that doesn't have to be done, then what ever works for you. by the way, nice job on the video.It's better than a lot I have seen and it's nice to see a man knit.

My pattern says Place provisionally CO sts on to spare circular needle. Next Rnd Work live sts together with Provisionslly CO sts by knitting two Tog (one live st tog with one provisionally CO st what is live and what is Provisionsl ????
@eringovoni5198
@eringovoni5198 8 жыл бұрын
+Margaret Mckay did you start with regular cast on or a provisional cast on? the live stitches in any pattern refers to the ones you are currently knitting along with the pattern. The provisional cast on stitches are the ones being held on the spare cable needle or scrap yarn. I do think maybe you are using a pattern that is a bit to advanced for your knitting skill, or poorly written? I just recently used this technique for a hat but there were quite a few rounds knitted before I knitted the provisional and live stitches together, I used scrap yarn to hold my provisional and then put them on a circular later when i was ready to knit them. You may be reading the pattern incorrectly? It would be impossible to knit provisional stitches with live ones in your case. If the next round is knit them together you cannot, you have not made any live stitches yet....You have only made temporary cast on stitches, no part of your project has been knitted yet
