This video walks you through how to knit the 3-strand braid cable, which consists of 3 equal-sized strands twisting around each other.
It's a very popular cable, and remarkably easy to do!
I also show you how to change the direction of the cable twist by making an easy alteration to the pattern.
I hope you find this useful :)

My first not stockinette or just rib scarf and created a 49 stitch with 3 cables and two 3x3 rib in between, using 4.5mm needles. Just finished row 11 and it's looking stunning! Very happy thanks a bunch 🤗

Thank you for this easy to understand video! I am new to knitting and wanted to learn the cable stitch. Your video was easy to understand and follow. I also like that you used a light color yarn for the tutorial. It makes it so much easier to see.

This is how I taught myself to do it. Interesting. The only difference is that if I do a 3/3/3 braid then I twist on every 3rd row, which is a bit tricky because twisting on a row with purl stitches is harder (because then I also have to think backwards) but not impossible though. If I do a 4/4/4 braid, then I'll twist on every 4th row, and every 2nd row on a 2/2/2 braid, etc. I've not yet tried doing a 1/1/1 braid twisted on every row, but that would probably look pretty cool, if I had that sorta patience. I've noticed that following that patterns generally makes it just right in how tightly it's wrapped. I'm currently making a poncho with 3 braids next to each other, one of 12 stitches to be be twisted every 4th row, then one of 9 stiches to be twisted ever 3rd row, and the last one of 6 stitches to be twisted every 2nd row. I encountered that's harder to keep track of than I had anticipated, lol, but it sure looks neat.

Yes changing the number of 'rest rows' between the twists certainly changes the look; making it tighter or looser. The twists are pretty much always done on the knit side of the cable , though, because (as you said) it's easier! Happy cabling :)

I’m a bit confused at how many reps there are in this pattern, you just cable on the third line and the 4th line is the same as the first right?
@RokoleeDIY

Hi! Rows 1 & 5 are the same, rows 2 & 4 & 6 & 8 are the same, and rows 3 & 7 are the cable rows (and are slightly different to each other). When I finally publish this pattern on my website I will link it here. Sorry for the confusion.

When I knit braided cable it becomes very tight please guide me thanks in advance
@RokoleeDIY

Hi! Cabling does create odd tension and bunch up stitches in your knitting, so it may be something you can fix by just blocking your knitting once you have finished. Blocking will relax the stitches and even out the tension. If that isn't enough to fix it, then perhaps try using needles that are a little thicker than recommended for your yarn, to try and loosen up your tension. Hope that helps!

Hi! The best place to ask for individual help would be an online knitting forum - have a Google to find one that has active members and then you'll be able to post a photo and ask for help :)

what do C6f and C6b mean? thanks in advance
@RokoleeDIY
@RokoleeDIY 3 жыл бұрын
C stands for cable, 6 stands for how many stitches are involved in the cable, f means front and b means back. So C6f is where 3 stitches pass in front of another 3 stitches and it twists to the left, and C6b is where 3 stitches are passed behind another 3 stitches and it twists to the right :)

What is confusing is the order of the 3 stitches on the holder. Rather than all the info about knit and purl which most would know by the time they tackle the cable, is to do the 3 -strand braid cable to identify the order of the stitches on hold. And on this you never do the 3rd one. From what I gather the first 3 are on hold to the Front , then the middle 3 are on hold to the Back in the next cable row. So does this mean that for the next cable row, the last 3 the middle are again on hold but to the Front ? And then it would help to repeat the order . That is what is so confusing.

This is what I did...The third cable is Row 11... I repeated as the first cable, ie Row 3. So Row 3 the cable row is hold first 3. Row 7 the cable row is hold second 3 Row 11 is a repeat of Row 3. It looks right because if you hold the last 3, there's nothing to twist because you've already knitted the first 6 of the 9 stitches.
