Thank you. Sometimes the simplest things are hardest to explain. Thanks for your straight forward directions with no long commentaries and reasons that annoy me when I just wanna learn the stitch. I've done two large blocks in entirely different stitches (Daisy and Brocade) using this method and the chain sides are gonna make it so much easier for me to put it together. I'll also use it for the large blanket I just cast on for so that the sides look neat and beautiful! Thanks ever so much, I just hit follow!

This is such a HUGE help thank you so much! I am a new knitter self-taught via KZfaq videos and I was getting frustrated because I was getting curved bumpy edges and I have seen a few of these and was still getting the same bumpy edge result. I can't wait to try this. Thanks again. Keep making videos please!

Hi Erin..... I am the same as you were - new to knitting and everything has been self-taught via countless youtube videos. I assume by now you have got your neat edges to perfection. Could you please tell me if this method can be used with single / double ribbing ? Thanks.

So on the right side. slip/knitwise both 1st and last stitch and on the wrong side, purl the 1st and last stitch. Seems easier than others I've watched, and a little tighter stitch. Some come out very loose like using up the space of 2 rows. Could be me too, because I'm pretty new at this. (again).. I'll give it a try.

I like this method. I have been slipping my first stitch purlwise with yarn in front, then continuing in pattern across to the last stitch and knitting it. I do this on both sides of the piece, but this your method seems to make a nicer edge. I read your link first, then watched your video. Thanks for offering both...they were very helpful.

I wonder what I do wrong... I try this on stockinette... The right edge when facing RS (so step 1 and 4) look just right, but the left edge (so step 2 and 3, last st of RS and first or WS) is so loose and doesn't look right at all...

I’m knitting a ribbed scarf, and I am not sure how to figure out right side vs wrong side. 😩🤦🏼‍♀️ Always love your tutorials!
@neenee56
@neenee56 5 жыл бұрын
If the entire scarf is ribbed, with no other design to let you know right vs wrong side, you can decide, right when you begin, which you want to be right side. When I have that kind of pattern, I usually decide that the first row I knit will be my "right side," and my 2nd row will be the "wrong side." Once I knit a row or 2, I simply place a stitch marker on the side I determine will be the right side. That way, I'll always know which is which. I always place a green stitch marker on the right side & a red stitch marker on the wrong side. It's just a personal preference that works for me. :) For a scarf that is entirely ribbed or any pattern that looks the same on both sides, you can choose. Just remember to stick to that, once you make the decision. That's why the stitch markers help. :)

Thank you!!! A perfect explanation! I have only one doubt about it: I'm knitting a sweater and my question is: When I have to increase one stitch per row, ¿how can I manage the Slip Edge Stitch? ¿Do I have to make two Slip Edge Stitches or only one Slip and then continue knitting the pattern?

It depends on what you're doing. If you're going to sew something together I usually add 1 stitch to each side. Otherwise, no you don't need to add a stitch.

Would you please consider looking at this and doing a tutorial on how to read the pattern correctly and then show how to do it ? I'm sure I'm not the only one who is confused when reading patterns - After doing stocking stitch it says..... Shape Neck and Raglan. Next Row. K2tog, knit to end. 22 [25:28:30:33:36] sts Next Row. Cast off 3 [3:3:4:4:4] sts, purl to end. 19 [22:25:26:29:32] sts. (I'm Ok to this point....but then it starts getting confusing ) Work 22 [26:26:10:28:32] rows dec 1 st at neck edge in 3rd [3rd:1st:3rd:3rd:3rd] and every foll 4th row AT SAME TIME dec 1 st at raglan edge in next and every foll alt row. 3 [3:3:14:3:3] sts. Next row K1, k2tog. 2sts Next row P2tog. Fasten off. It's doing my head in big time.🥴🥴🥴

You have done a nice job explaining this but there is a problem. Slipping stitches is the most confusing thing I have encountered thus far when it comes to knitting. I just can't do the math. With slipping the stitch at both ends it seems to me that you would have fewer and fewer stitches to work with and end up with a triangle. I knit all kinds of stuff. I have been knitting a very long time. I must have a huge brain fart when it comes to this knitting technique. I am a classical musician so my mind is very pattern oriented and I have a mental need for things to add up. I hope someone who is somewhat like minded can tell me something helpful.

Cate Mef when you slip a stitch you are just passing that stitch onto your other needle. so you still have that stitch on your other needle you wouldn't lose any stitches. but if you just dropped it and not brought It to your other needle you would lose stitches and unravel your work
@catemef6963
@catemef6963 7 жыл бұрын
I think I just need to see it clearly in slow motion. Probably if I go down to my local Michaels when they have a class I can finally get a grasp on this. It still sounds to me like if you slip it, then the rows become uneven. I don't see it as stitches unraveling but as the number changing like one leg being shorter than the other. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.
@krisb6650
@krisb6650 7 жыл бұрын
Cate Mef I would suggest playing around with this selvedge edge, if you just take the first stitch off your left needle and do not put it on your right needle then knit the second stitch you'll lose stitches, but if you put the first stitch on your left needle onto your right without knitting it you'll create this look! I'm knitting right now have finally mastered it so it actually looks nice!

Kris B, that's so funny. I can tell you are doing a great job describing it and I'm having a tougher and tougher time seeing it in my mind. I will follow your suggestion and play with it more. I think running down to the local Michael's to watch a lesson might be the only thing that's going to work. I'm very visual.

@lonnieappleby7538
@lonnieappleby7538 8 жыл бұрын
+shaimaa Hagag It does not. You are simply "skipping" that one stitch every other row, then "picking it up" on the next row. All it does it make the stitch two rows in height. That was a concern for me also because those slipped stitches are so often then knitted together or passed over to decrease. LOL
