Hey, what’s happening, I’m always glad to see you here! If this is the first time we are meeting, my name is anna welcome to the channel, this is speak easy, where my goal is to help aspiring voice over talents start their career by sharing tips and tricks that I learned as a freelance voice over for over 10 years.
In today’s video, I will try to answer questions sent to my channel and my other socials as much as I can, based on my experience. I focused on 5 questions that were asked more than once . And again, these are all based from what I know and my experience. This is something that I sort of want to do regularly because you guys ask such good questions and I want you to know I appreciate them! Way back in 1985, the classic anime TV series Super Dimension Fortress Macross was released on local TV via RPN 9 and it was dubbed in English by local voice actors. I can never forget that anime series and it remains a personal favorite of mine.

I loved that show. Did it air there in Philippines as Macross or as Robotech? Here in South America we watched it as Robotech after Harmony Gold purchased it in 1985.

Anyone here played the Mass Effect video games of 2007 to 2012? Those games had solid voice acting or dubbing. I love the voice of the female Commander Shepard.

Yay! I knew I was right to have done one of my past job interviews in our car while it was parked in our garage because the client was very particular with background noises. The problem I encountered though was that it got our ever-curious dogs worked up as they were jumping all over the door and the side of the hood, trying to maybe see why I was just seated inside, so our poor car received a lot of hairline arts! 🐾😩😩

Remember the classic anime film Akira (1988)? That movie had not one but TWO English-dubbed versions. In the 1989 English-dubbed version, there were flaws. For one, Kaneda's name was pronounced as "ka-ney-da" while the voice actor who played the character Kaneda sounded like a California surfer dude. 😆😆 Fortunately the 2001 English-dubbed version corrected the flaws. I have a Blu-ray disc of Akira which contains the two said English-dubbed versions and the Japanese-dubbed (subtitled in English) version. I also noticed that when it comes to bringing anime from Japan to the West, Canada is a hot spot for English dubbing/recording.

Anna, a question about using your car as your recording booth: It seems to me that the rolled-up car windows would not be an ideal surface for a recording both. Would you need to drape towels or some absorbent fabric over the windows?

Yes, thats what I do! I bring towels with me and I put it on my windows and any smooth surfaces just to be sure. If you watch my previous video, you will see a towel covering my window. Some don’t feel the need for it though. Thanks for always asking excellent questions, David!

I personally do not recommend recording on your mobile phone unless your client says its okay. So, what you bring into your car would be your microphone, your laptop so you can record into your software and your headphones to monitor. :)

Anna, thank you for the video it was insightful. I have a question, you showed us how to answer questions on a Fiverr profile page and one question asked," HQ Audio file (WAV) format." What exactly does that mean? The answer was $5.

Glad it was helpful! Regarding WAV format, I charge extra for that because it occupies a lot more space in storage , because unlike the MP3 format, this is uncompresses and it really is in its highest quality.

Hi, if im recording with my mobile and an external microphone, which format should i give my client? I saw audio files WAV, is it the usual recording format in our mobiles? And what is meant by split files. Pls help me out, im new to this and i don't understand these technicalities

The kind of format will depend on the clients requirement. .WAV is usually higher quality, but some are okay to have the files in MP3 format which I think can be done in phones. Spilt files is if your client is requiring you to submit recordings in separate or different files.

Hello, I can’t really tell you which microphone is best for voiceover, as it really depends on so many things, like the environment you record in, your budget, etc. i just recently upgraded my mic though. Perhaps you might want to check it out .:)

Hi Stephen! Unfortunately you can’t remove it yourself on Fiverr. You can contact your client and try and ask if they can take it down. Maybe work out what happened and come up with a compromise. Sorry about that

What is one of the worst English dubbed anime I saw? Try the 1980s made-for-TV anime movie Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned. That movie, which was a Toei Animation adaptation of certain Tomb of Dracula comic books published by Marvel Comics, was brought to the United States by Harmony Gold (the same company behind Robotech) and its English dubbing was really terrible in quality and execution. Many times throughout, the voice actors did not sound natural as they were just reading their English lines without immersing themselves into their respective characters. That anime is a clear reminder that the 1970s and 1980s were not very good times on translating and presenting anime to the West in English.
