What Sadia describes as freedom is what in philosophy is defined as “positive freedom”, which is using your faculties to reach virtue, become who you must be. The guy describes the opposite end of the rope, “negative freedom”, defined as the possibility to do stuff because nobody stops you from doing so, and is its most popular conception. It is also its most primitive form, since on its own is like a premium pass for hedonism, and theres nothing more animalistic than that.

This conversation reminds me of a teenager arguing with a parent about why can't he or she go to the party, stay past curfew and drink all they want. A child will rarely see why he or she needs restrictions to enjoy life. It's like looking through a set of bars and believing they cage the person instead of caging bad consequences like unwanted pregnancies and disease. Look around, it should be so blatantly obvious this sort of 'freedom' that the guy desires hasn't been a boon of human happiness. He even admitted to it at 0:17 and believes the 'pendulum swing' of progressively loose morals should continue cuz it will self correct itself. A veil has been pulled over humanity for believing that.

After 6 days of jail in my life it definitely made me see freedom diffrent. We're born in slavery, our time is to spend it in survival mood while chasing things in life that don't matter making us to lose things that trully matter. Freedom is the ability to have the untouchable peace inside of you, walking on secure values as you wish in perfect balance of desires. I walk on this ground like this planet is mine and because I don't chase goals from lack I make it happen. Do you think Bill Gates was chasing the money that he has..? He invented stuff, all his focus was in his inventions and projects with the purpose of leaving this world better than he found it. Detaching yourself of material matters inside of your emotions, being able to be honest with yourself is what will make you feel free and also abundant. The knowledge of truth is what will make you understand where are you coming from, why you are the way you are and what your power of creativity is, whats your purpose in this world....find this purpose, believe in it will all your heart, mind, soul and..."The truth will set you free"

I haven't heard you talk about the difference between a casual connection and a physical connection and how a person can be confused between the two. I think people that are in a casual connection have it confused that they are in a relationship when they are not, rather than a physical connection when you are in a relationship and how behaviors, boundaries and values separate the two.

Great comments about Freedom. But we should stop using the word Freedom in the context of Liberty and use Freedom only in the context of choosing to behave properly. Note that true Freedom has knowledge (of what is better), choice and action whereas Liberty is just choice.
@r.a.9630
@r.a.9630 22 күн бұрын
I wouldn't say that in exact that way. My philosophy teacher once said: To be able to do bad or stupid things for yourself, is part of freedom. So freedom is the ability to make choices, which is given. Liberty is having choices, without severe consequences.

Freedom is an illusion. You are never ever in a situation in your life where you can want to do what you like to do. I want to live for 300 years, can I? So there are limits to what we can do. everything is limiting us. Physics, biology, genetics, society, the place you live etc. Life gives you options from which you can choose. Every option comes with benefits and prices to pay. That's it. A higher number of options to chose from does not mean you have more freedom, it means you are rich. Freedom comes from within, it's nothing that you can take away or give to people. You just can enrichen their lifes by giving them more options to choose from, which is the main misery of modern western life. It's too much and people struggle to find an orientation in their lifes, while running on ancient software in their brains. Disciplin is for me not the way to freedom, it's a way to a wealthy and healthy life. The ability to use your freedom (of choice) wisely, by not leaning in to short term distractions. Disciplin is kind of a long term investment strategy that pays out exponentially on the long run. It can lead to more "options", but again this is not freedom, but often misunderstood as freedom. In that sense A slave is as free as a master. But not as rich as a master. But he can use his freedom and the limited choices he has to form a life with more options to choose from. A wealthier life. Freedom is absolut, there is no measure of freedom.

You are confusing True Freedom with the lower version....Liberty. A major point of this discussion was to identify a higher value/meaning of Freedom.
@r.a.9630
@r.a.9630 22 күн бұрын
@@boombeesharkful liberty is a social concept, not a lower version of freedom. Using my definition of freedom, you can say that Liberty removes or reduces social restrictions on the options that the individual has. Technology does btw the same, eben though in other fields. The liberation of slaves doesn't make them free, but gives them more options to choose from, which is very often confused as freedom. But it is not. The eastern philosophies have a much better understanding of these concepts.
