I can't believe it's been two years since I first watched this, so I came back for a review. This is the absolute best way to learn these hitches. So far I've used the prussik & schwabish. I don't climb often, so these are the easiest for me to remember. I prefer the one-way action of the schwabish, but on some ropes the prussik holds better. I really should get out in my back yard and try them all. I might learn a different one that suits me well. I will be 70 this year, so I probably won't climb many more trees. At least I have a motorcycle for fun! Thanks Mr. Bino for the great vids you put out❤ Even if I quit climbing, I will still watch for the entertainment and feeling of camaraderie. P.S. I usually complain about background music, but towards the end, use chose some great music!

What a wonderful video!!! It is surprising that no one else I have come across teaches to tie these knots with the assistance of gravity! It's extra effort to wrap upwards against gravity, and your method is so much easier!!! Thank you for such a valuable lesson! : )

Great explanation in the hitches. I’m a hunter and will be climbing trees (one-stick method) and will definitely be using one of those hitches. Any recommendations on which is best for possible wet weather (I heard the schwabisch can lock up when wet) and which rope/hitch sizes you prefer?

I'm switching over from the Blake's to the Hitchclimber Eccentric. I'm going to focus on the VT in different variations & also the Schwabish. I'm just looking forward this weekend in my controlled environment to find something to use with my new saddle. I have a 60+' double maple which I can climb from either side with a couple of different paracord presets. When I accomplish that I'm going to incorporate my new Pinto. I bought the spacer with it for redirects. Interested in what u would use with it when incorporating this way.

@@josephtreadlightly5686 I would use the 8mm and 28 inch. What I normally use is an 8mm 24 inch cord and have 4 wraps. If you're using a 28 inch you may need 5 wraps. Remember to test it low and slow.

@josephtreadlightly5686 3 жыл бұрын
@@BinoH Yeah Bino. I watched a different video about tree climbing Prusiks where u said to do 5 wraps with the 28". That's what I did cuz I'm long & lean. I spent a half hour @ the base of the 🌳 testing. My yard with good cover so I didn't look like an idiot or anything. I found that taking 3 to 5 screenshots of the each of the different hitches helped my brain click since I wanted to tie them right the 1st time. That Eccentric with the oval DMM carabiner going through the top hole with a factory tied loop is 1 slick & clean system. Just wanted u to know that there isn't another video out there that I can take 3 to 5 screenshots of the process. I will probably stick with the Michoacon & Knut cuz I like those two ends going the opposite way to attach on either end of the Eccentric. It depends. If you are asking the breaking strength the rope we used in the video is at 7,000 pounds and the hitch cord is at 6,500 pounds. If you are wondering how well will each hitch hold in the way I tied them for me they are equal. The all move a bit different some are more grippy and some less. With this cord I bought it with the wrapped ends and tied the double fisherman's bends. Depending on the cord you buy you might be able to melt the end but if it's heat resistant sew the end and whip them then tie your double fisherman's. I don't know if it's a big saving if you are buying one. Each double fisherman's takes a good amount of cord.

Bino, do you have a favorite “go-to” hitch that you use most often ? How about the viewers, what do you like best. I am super noob to climbing. I tried my first climb the other day using a Blake’s hitch. After weighting the Blake’s hitch it was so tight it seemed like it didn’t want to slide up. Next time I’ll use a prusik cord and one of these. I’m constantly reminding myself “start low and go slow”. Looking for more beginner advice. Thx!

They are are for tree climbing. The reason to use one over anther is how it works for you. Some move very quick and some less.

That used to happen with me. That's I explored the different climbing hitches to find the one that works best with me. Here are some thing that can make a hitch become to tight or loose. the type of cord if it's hard or soft and your rope some ropes act different with certain cords. The length of the cord and how many wraps are taken. I made a video Title is Tree Climbing Prusik Cords. check it out it might help.

I hate to assume so ill just ask: to tie all these hitches to yourself you just capture both ends of the hitch with a carabiner then attach that carabiner to your umbilical/ventral connection point? TIA

I like the way Buckin Billy ties the taut line hitch. It goes out in the middle. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pN1okqV-0byRn2g.html There's a one more wrap and IMO it's not really a Taut line hitch as described on animatedknots.com but some of your hitches may be different than the official versions too. Blake's hitch should leave the knot in the middle too. In the end all you need is one that works and that you know and one more when the first one is slipping on a wet rope or something.

Catalyst/cornell hitch are probably the most fail proof for me, personally. I've had those 2 work with all types of lengths, wraps, climbing line etc. The way they bend the climbing line makes it grab more consistently when you compare it to basic hitches, from what I've seen.

Not sure what application you're avocation. Part of the issue is people don't understand application. It is better for most people to have just a few knots and be able to do them 100% in ant situation.

The application is in Tree climbing. It is a good idea to learn a few hitches to find the ones that work well with your climbing style.
