I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

Yeah, I retired due to disability, make barely over the poverty line. Checked on food stamps and it used to be you could make less than 136% of the poverty line, just thought I could make it on my own. Checked this year as getting harder... Now, if you are under 60 years old or have children living with you, you can make up to 200% of the poverty line, BUT...if you are over 60 years old, you must make LESS than 85% of the poverty line... If I remember correctly, poverty line sits at $14,480 for most states, I would have to move to Hawaii or Alaska to actually get help, thought we'll, maybe I could get help with housing, yeah, 3-8 year waiting lists anywhere near a safe place to live.... Much sorter waiting lists in a dangerous place, go figure. Not sure what kind of work can be done from a recliner or a bed, but I am trying to figure that out... without being g a spammer or something stupid like that... I can walk, just not far, already had 2 back/neck operations, need more, but can't afford them, same with hearing aids, Medicare doesn't help pay for them, or my glasses. Worked a lot of my life, until I became disabled, and what do I have to show for it? NADA. Paid taxes in for all the things I can't even get help with...

This is redickulous. Rent is 600. In a bad neighborhood. Then utilities. 400. Then water bill 149. Then gas if you have a car. And maintenance. Then food. Then toiletries. Then medicine. The list goes on and on. Even people who make 700. A week are hitting food pantries. The whole world has gone mad especially the government. They want the poor to suffer. It's redickulous no one can live on 700. A month. With all the bills and rent this is insanity. Raw insanity. .

Yes it is. I'm flummoxed onto what to do. I need to move on from a relationship and be on my own. I'm getting a housing voucher but I think they take 30% of your income to pay the rent. I only get 690.00 a month. I would like to sell some crocheted items on Etsy to make some extra money. I don't know what to do. Should I just set up a 'business'? Am I going to screw myself over? My soon to be ex is offering to help me with it. Be the business owner and pay me. Put in his name. He is good with finances and business. That ties me to him and I have to trust him. I suppose if it goes sour it wouldnt be that big of a deal since I won't be making enough to store in an account that he could steal from me. He would be getting paid to manage the business for me too. Please someone advice me on what I should do. I want to set this up this weekend because I'm moving on afterwards. We have peace between us at the mkment.

Hi Brian great work and your a wonderful help even though your right you can earn 970 and under and work 20 hours and under and it’s totally legal however working at any level can muddy the water if your on disability remember if someone works they are notifying Social Security it’s great when one is honest and showing they have nothing to hide however Social Security will bookmark that you are working thus making you a prime candidate for a CDR as doing the Ticket to Work program is a double edge sword because they will see it if you can work 20 hour’s a week you probably can work 20 more and try to bump you off the program it’s totally within your rights to work a little but can be a tight wire walk

@@CanImakeamilliondollars well you can try to earn up to the 970 that is legal just risky also if none of your circumstances change you will be approved for Georgia housing assistance but apply at the 2nd month don’t wait until the 3rd as issues can arrive and not approve you on time plus if your on SSI then you should be enrolled with Georgia Medicaid if so hopefully your on a Medicaid advantage plan like Humana, United or some plan like that you could then talk to your case manager to help get you qualified for other forms of assistance it’s just if you are on the Original State of Georgia Medicaid your options will be so much more limited

(2) During ticket to work, would taking a community college class to become employable count as SGA? Would the same class “online” be safer so as not to trigger SGA? I know everyone’s situation is different, but even a general idea would help. Thank you kindly. 🙏

I haven't wanted to be on disability for a long time I'm only 41 but I had back surgery because of my disc in my back and they wanted me to do a spinal fusion back in 2018 but I worked in medical field before I became a truck driver and my mom was a nurse also so I knew that was not a good idea and so I put it off but it got to the point where my nerves were pinched for so long I started losing my balance and I couldn't put it off anymore so what I did instead of spinal fusion is to laminectomy which is what they did was scrape some of the bone spurs off that were pinching my nerves but I still have not yet to get strength back in my legs and I'm now starting to have issues with my arms I have no strength in them

You can in 2023 make up to 1,470….however, after 970, it triggers a Ticket To Work Program. Here’s where it gets dicey, the TTW program takes any 9 months of work within a 5 year period….unfair, yes, but they count any income within that 5 years over the 970 toward the TTW program. So if I’m 5 years you have 10 months over 970……they’ll try and kick you off. Advice, NEVER to over $900 to be safe

This may be Potentially an odd case, What happens if a person on SSDI - age 63 - I think their retirement is at 67 - - and they have accepted employment income over the level allowed-- Since they are so close to full retirement - will the same rules still apply - - And what if they max out the nine months - - or Unable to continue working before retirement as a result of illness will, they need to get an attorney to have their benefits resumed? With ageism so prevalent, it would be difficult for a 66 year old to obtain employment *note, the individual is under continued medical care. And, hopes to continue employment after retirement dateline.

interesting, it's easy for someone to just see the SGA and think that's the safe amount and completely miss the trial work period amount. if you work over the trial work period amount then that will have you lose benefits after 9 months?

Yes, selling music that you have created on your own or with collaborators could potentially affect your Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits. Hi, I'd like to know, when you moved back to ssdi did they do a review all over again? Did you almost lose it? I have ssdi and have used I think 6-7 months of my trial work period on ticket to work in the last 2 years but haven't worked consistently. I wanted to know because I'm being pressured to try to work even though I'm really not able to do so anymore and the ticket to work program says I am going to lose my ssdi as a result of leaving ticket to work program. They also mentioned that the whole point of getting on ticket to work is to get me off of ssdi permanently. I would like to be able to work but I can't right now because of severe health problems.

I go up over here they go down over there. So it keeps u in a bubble u cannot get out of. Its not fair and its wrong to special needs families. My son is on ssi disability due to him being autistic. He was getting $829 a month. Now with working part time on weekends at McDonald's. He works like 8 hours a week. And he probably makes around $112 a week before taxes. So now ssi took about $455 a month from his ssi check. Should he drop some hours so they don't take more money from his check? I welcome any comments or suggestions. I need to send his paystubs to them.
@TheDisabilityDigest
@TheDisabilityDigest 23 күн бұрын
I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing with your son's SSI benefits. Balancing work and benefits can indeed be tricky. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has specific rules about how earned income affects SSI benefits. For SSI, they generally reduce the monthly benefit by 50 cents for every dollar earned after the first $85 (the first $20 of any income and $65 of earned income are excluded). Given your son's earnings, it's important to calculate how these rules apply to his situation. Here’s a simplified breakdown: Total Weekly Earnings: $112 Monthly Earnings: $112 x 4 = $448 Exclusions: $85 (first $20 + $65 of earned income) Countable Income: $448 - $85 = $363 SSI Reduction: $363 / 2 = $181.50 So, his SSI check would be reduced by approximately $181.50 a month due to his part-time work, not $455. If the reduction is higher, it could be due to other factors, or there might be a mistake in their calculations. Suggestions: Verify Calculations: Double-check the SSA’s calculations to ensure they're accurate. Report Earnings Promptly: Continue sending his paystubs to the SSA to keep them updated on his earnings. Consult an Expert: Consider speaking with an SSI benefits counselor or an attorney who specializes in disability benefits. They can provide detailed advice tailored to your son's specific situation. Consider Work Hours: If the reduction in benefits is too high, you might consider adjusting his work hours. However, it's also important to weigh the benefits of work experience and social interaction he gets from his job. Remember, work can be valuable for personal development and self-esteem, so it's essential to find a balance that works best for your son's overall well-being. I hope this helps, and please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or need further assistance.

He works anywhere from 6-8 hours a week. At $14 a hour. So it's not like like he is making alot. But according to ssi disability here. He is making too much. He went from $829 to $374.01. That's a big drop here. Don't you think so?

That's a great goal! The Social Security Administration (SSA) allows you to earn up to a certain amount each month without affecting your benefits. This amount is known as Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA). To understand more about SGA and how much you can earn while on SSD, you can watch this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/osyleZulvrnWmI0.html. Remember, it's always a good idea to consult with a qualified representative. I heard from my disability lawyer who’s been doing this for over 30 years that if the amount is under the monthly SGA of $970 for 2022 then you don’t need to report it to the Social Security Administration because it’s under the monthly SGA allowed amount and not considered “work”.
