Hi Greg, Bruce is just demonstrating how to light the torch. In all of the many different configurations we carry the torch you will need some type of regulator and in cases where you will be using larger non-disposable tanks, we recommend using flashback arrestors. I hope this is of some help. Mark N Tech

Question about the flames you are showing...I thought we were supposed to have a little tip of yellow at the end of the blue flame. My brother always tells me there has to be a little tip (point) of yellow at the very end of the flame, and that is where the flame is the hottest and that is the part that is supposed to touch the pieces you are trying to solder. That is how I've been doing it, but is that the wrong way? Please tell me when you get a chance. I really feel like I'm doing so many things wrong when I watch these videos.

"HHO" is a crackpot term for oxyhydrogen. It's used by people who think they can use water to power cars or to increase fuel efficiency by dumping oxyhydrogen into the engine chamber, and they make it by wasting alternator's electricity on electrolysis onboard. It's a pseudoscientific and hilarious endeavour that spawned many scammers selling this to uneducated and gullible people.

Hey Rio, I've often heard you should light the propane fuel when you are bleeding the tank, rather than letting the propane bleed into the air. Do you have a thought either way on this? Thanks!
@RioGrande1944
@RioGrande1944 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, +Tricia! Thanks for reaching out :) We consulted our Jewelry Tech Team and there's no need to light the fuel in order to bleed the lines. The Little Torch has 2 lines, 1 gas and 1 oxygen, so you'll need to bleed each line separately, but you can't have it lit and bleed each line. Does that make sense? Let us know if you have any more questions!

I got the Chinese version... I'm trying to weld bandsaw blades together and even the smallest standard tip is too large. I definitely get a lot better control and it's a lot cheaper than those Cobra torches.

Hi there, I just purchased my smith little torch with oxygen/propane disposable tanks (For now), and when I'm trying to light it, it is producing a big flame that almost seems to spit back at me. I'm using a tip 4, and I tried lighting using an open flame on candle as well as a strike ignitor and it did the same thing for both. I tried tightening the tip with a wrench, checked for leaks elsewhere and I don't understand why I can't get it to light. I followed all of your instructions. Do you know whats going on?

I have a disposal cylinders and preset regulators. Every time it is blowing the flame out from the candle. I only open it 1/4 (fuel) after I bleed the lines b4 anything. I even got a new torch and regulator because I thought something was wrong but it's doing the same thing. I cannot seem to figure out why its not lighting. I've used a candle and stricker and in the stricker the flame comes and goes out but tip still not lit. Please any suggestions. Regulators are open all the way because I do have preset regs as stated .

Hello, we wanted to follow up here just in case you needed the assistance. We spoke with our Tech Team and they said to make sure to use the correct PSI for the oxygen and fuel that is provided in the owners manual. Also new valves are much touchier than older valves, so you will need to be very careful and slowly open the oxygen valve to introduce oxygen into the flame. We hope this infromation is helpufl and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

@@jennifers6435 hey Jennifer S- was it the "Bernzomatic" brand red 1.4 ounce oxygen cylinder that was giving you trouble? Did it simply blow the flame off contact with the tip, and/ or just blow the gas flame out as you were easing into the oxygen? I have a couple of the Bernzomatic/ Worthington oxygen that I bought that I believe are full of something other than pure oxygen, because it blows the flame out no matter what I do, and different disposable oxygen cylinders that I have work just fine. I don't know how I could find out what exactly is in the bad ones without purchasing a super expensive gas analyzer, so I could return them to Lowes and get my 24$ back! The only identification numbers I can find are stamped into the bottom of the tank and are:"W8X01". Whatever that means. If you happen to see this and reply, thank you, and take care!

Hi, I am seeking clarification as to just where MAPP gas fits into the range of gasses available in particular if it can be used with the rosebud tip or not. Thanks.
@RioGrande1944
@RioGrande1944 8 жыл бұрын
Hey, +labrat7357! Thanks for watching! MAPP gas burns much hotter than propane when used with oxygen, however it is much more expensive and difficult to come by. It’s handy when you need really high heat. It can be used with a rosebud tip. Let us know if that helps!

You're not saying how you sett up your torch. I'm far from being a pro but I believe that information is needed to answer the question. I use the smith little torch with disposable propane and oxygen tanks. They are at most 16 oz so these are small tanks. I asked rio tech team about using flashback arrestors with this set up. I was told that because the tank is small, there isn't enough pressure in the tank to sustain and performance would be affected if using a FB arrestor. There is a check valve in the (small) tank I'm told. Not the same as a flash back arrestor though.

Shouldn't you be turning off the fuel first, then the Oxygen? I know for lrger torches you are supposed to shut the fuel off 1st so that you reduce the chances of having soot go into your tip
@RioTechs

+Wallace Olmstead With the little torch you can do either. With propane you don't get the soot. Thanks for watching.Mark N Tech
@tomt9543

@@RioTechs A safety aspect that I don’t think was mentioned in the vid, is that shutting off the oxygen first, then the fuel gas, is that it tests the fuel valve each time you shut it down. If the valve is bad, the flame won’t fully go out, but if the fuel gas is turned off first, the oxygen will snuff out the flame even if the valve is leaking! Even on a torch this small, a leak can cause big boom! Propane for example is heavier than air, and a leak will cause the gas to pocket at the lowest point in the area.

Using an alcohol lamp to light a torch is suicidal. Alcohol at the best of times is very easily spilled and ignited. A welding sparker is much safer.
