This video talks my recent rating drop of 300 points. A lot goes in to this, but experimenting this different openings (some good, some bad) played a big part as well. This video will cover 4 openings to avoid if you don't want to see a similar rating drop.

The truth is you will eventually have to learn the correct responses to e4 e5 openings so avoiding them is pretty dumb you need to learn what the ideas and common traps are in all the stuff that arises from 1.e4 e5 and get better. I am currently ~ 1560 and I've been trying all sorts of openings but the problem is we usually will have many more chances during the middlegame to come back which we don't spot because we aren't good at tactics. Im currently focusing on just getting really good at tactics. Let's see where this goes...

yeah I think tactics are the biggest thing that would help me as well.

In what way learning d5 followed by Na5 so hard for black in the 2 knights defence ?
@ChessBlueprints

It's not too difficult once you put the time in. A lot of players aren't actually willing to put in the effort it seems though. Even 1000-1500 Nxd5 is still the most popular move in Lichess.

Enjoyed your video. I am at 1100 elo. My highest was 1330. Trying to get to my high and beyond. Struggling a bit. Not sure whether to just grind it out or play in on line tournaments. I play Jobava London and Scotch as white. Pirc and Accelerated Dragon as black for the most part. Have had mixed success. Trying to cut down on blunders. Any recommendations on how to progress faster? I appreciate your videos. Have learned some tactics from them. Thanks.

Yeah my bullet rating is still 200 from my peak so I think that kind of stuff is normal. For progress, I really rate watching chess around as much as you play. I watched a lot of Daniel Naroditsky around your level, and still watch similar style stuff. :)

Two Knights Defense is perfectly good. You just need to learn how to deal with the Fried Liver. If you like tricky lines, counterattack with the Ponziani-Steinitz Gambit or the Traxler Countergambit.

9:05 Upon getting this common JoLo position several dozen times now, it's definitely better to take pawn with B (which SF recommends). Originally, I was strictly relying on dxe5 (which was probably recommended by a video I watched that started me using the JoLo opening). And it's playable...certainly. But precisely because of the temp Q sac you show later, Bxe5 increases the odds of that happening (to near certainty) because the assault on c7 remains. Black will take B with N...thus Qxd5 remains available. Otherwise black has some other moves after dxe5 that can avoid this trap. Don't risk them weaseling out of their mess. Insist on going up a minimum 2 pawns.

I always see B takes is slightly better with engine but thought it must be more boring with the trades. I see what you mean now, actually looks more testing to deal with. Definitely will be trying this out now thanks.

@@ChessBlueprints Cool. I wished I was skilled enough to nearly always convert a +2 advantage. But certainly happy to be trading everything off. Then (most times) convert the endgame. Good luck. Keep up the good work.

How about 1.d4, d5 2.Nc3, Nf6 3. Bf4, a6? ( Jobava London )

From the graph it looks like you played very well for a few days and gained a lot of point, then stopped playing as much and then slowly got back to your normal level.

My #1 tipp is: If e4 don't play e5 (I also recommend the Caro-Kann) because there's a TON of openings you don't have to learn and don't play d5 against d4. I recommend either 1.d4 Nf6 to go into the King's Indian Defense or if you're intermediate you should also get away with 1.d4 c5 the Old Benoni Defense.
@ChessBlueprints
@ChessBlueprints 5 ай бұрын
yeah I like caro for that reason as well. Although I have been getting crushed in the Old Benoni so I'm missing something ahaha
@dreamshakejake3736
@dreamshakejake3736 5 ай бұрын
Pretty sure the old Benoni is slightly dubious. The Nimzo Indian is a more reliable weapon against d4 imo. Still an imbalanced game and black equalizes quick. I’d rather be playing for advantage instead of just be slightly worse out of the opening.

Agreed, it's really not that much to remember. I regularly play the Italian and have zero intention of playing the Fried Liver, but so many opponents are so afraid of it they push the h pawn which is kind of a wasted turn, giving me another edge in development.

@nelsengriffith7197 It's a rough one without a lot of theory. I find that I give up too much space unless I attack the center early, but that's hard to do against an opponent who knows even a little about playing against the KID.

Avoiding openings because of win rate is not a good advice. You should _learn_ the openings where you have a bad win rate, not avoid them. Unless you're one of those players obsessed with their rating (you know, the kind of player that starts spamming draw offers when in a losing position, because they somehow think their rating is connected to their value as a person), then sure, go ahead.
@ChessBlueprints
@ChessBlueprints 5 ай бұрын
yeah I agree, great way to prioritise what you need to learn. It certainly does lower your rating in the short term though, at least for me 😅
