At the 2009 National Sudoku Championship in Philadelphia, US and World Sudoku Champion Thomas Snyder goes for the $10,000 first prize but writes way too fast in the closing seconds and makes a mistake. Three minutes later, Tammy McLeod would turn in a correct grid to win the tournament and a spot on the US Sudoku Team. Also of note, third place finisher Eugene Varshavsky, seen here in his hooded sweatshirt motionless in front of his grid, was suspected of cheating earlier in the tournament, particularly after he could only place three digits after 8 minutes in the finals. Kudos to Thomas as I believe it was he that noted his mistake and bought it to the attention of the judges.

It took me 25 min on computer software to do this puzzle. It was also a pretty puzzle, a rather good puzzle for a championship. Thanks for sharing

@JoserRocksDawg if you look in the very middle horizontal line there are 2 6's in it, and if you look in the right hand side middle box there are 2 6's in that

Sembrava che per tutta la performance facessero a turno a mettersi nell'inquadratura davanti allo schema di Snyder!

It's pretty easy.. he messed up at some point and started to put duplicates in the solution. At a glance, there's at least duplicate sixes in the center row (R5), and a missing 4, and from that point on (or even before) he continued to build the solution from that error. Basically he messed up, and unfortunately he didn't double-check the solution.

the title and description are way cheeky.... Snyder is a several time sudoku champion and an ambitious guy -- no reason to be weird and point fingers at him like this.

The guy on the far right mega cheated. There were three rounds and each round had 3 sudoku to solve. He didnt even show up until the third round and then blasted through them in 14 minutes total. During the final puzzle which is this one, he only placed 2 digits and then gave up. The other two people solved it in 4 minutes and 7 minutes. It was this inconsistency that launched an investigation into this guy and hes cheated multiple tournaments.
