How to make a 2 String Diddley Bow | Another Crayola Crayon Box Instrument

My Daughter gave me another crayon box tin to make a new Diddley Bow from. This will be a great addition to the 1 string Diddley Bow I made a while back. I made this one with 2 strings. Its tuned to an octave like 1 pair of strings from a 12 string guitar. It sounds great with a slide. I think I'll keep using ‪@CrayolaLLC‬ tins for instruments. It will be a fun collection.

id love to see someone make a diddley boy with no power tools, just the kind of tools a bluesman would have had access to back in the 20's that way you could get to experience the instruments history

Look up the guy that made one with a water bottle, a pvc pipe and string. On youtube...no tools.

What a gem of a video! I recently made a one string diddy bow with a broom handle and a little kids frame drum, it was also a slider, I’m trying a double string with a cookie Tin soon and and this was exactly the video I needed for reference!

A good way to get tuning right on a 2 string is to use 5th or 6th & 1st from a standard medium or light gauge guitar string set. An E e tuning is the most accepted, but like most things in this OCD Hobby of CBG, let your own ideas be your creative expression…:.

This one is just a random octave. My other CBGs I tuned to standard E tuning like a 6 string but unless I'm trying to match another guitar or song I just tune them to pitch wherever it is. A like to use "drop D" as well for the 3 strings.

They are tuned in an octave. Its the same note just higher on one string, just like on a 12 string guitar.

Great project. I have some Poplar left over from another project. Is that hard enough to use for this? Approximately how long was the neck? I was also thinking, since it has no frets, just leave the neck as is. Back in the old old days, they just used what they had, so I really like the offset tuners. I definitely want to build one of these. Thanks, I really like your outtakes at the end.

From end to end its about 27 1/2". The scale length ended up being about 22" I wasn't shooting for anything specific on this one. I was just using the piece of wood I had available.

A 2 string is called a Chugger. A 3 string is called a Cruiser. But yall call them anything yall want. NO RULES in homemade instruments! I make mine outa hockey sticks and salad bowls.
