Perfect explanation, thanks man, I plan to teach this to all my archery students so they can make their own stringers.

Great instructional, without a talking head. The video format itself is a template that 95 percent of uploaders would be wise to imitate.

Just found your site and subscribed, then found this also. I think the best thing about this is the absolute simplicity and function of it! Nice to see that you are a Sage shooter as well.

I just watched your video on making silencers for my bow and you said to check this video out. Now I'm making both right now out of paracord. Thanks for the info.

Nice economical stringer idea.If you wrap a rubber band around that bottom string loop and limb tip (or better yet, get a tip protector), you won't have to worry about that bottom loop coming off when stringing.

I like that this is even more compact (when not in use) than some of the stringers I've seen on the market. I'll definitely be making one. Thanks for the valuable info!

I am distressed!!! It’s probably been at least thirty years since I strung my full recurve glass bow. I had two, a. 40 pounder and a 50 pounder. I don’t know which this one is. By everyone else’s opinion and standards, I’m an extremely active 76 year old. I have well over two thousand square feet of gardens to maintain, live in our own home, burn wood (you know how much handling that is)... I don’t require any meds, and my doc is very happy that I’ve kept my weight under control... and yet I no longer have enough upper body strength to string my bow using this stringer. I used to be able to do this in my sleep, over my leg, no stringer. I’m hoping the issue is just that the glass has become very inflexible over time. Will have to visit a pro shop for some advice.

Thanks! Yours is by far my favorite channel as you have the same basic goals as I do. Very lightweight hiking in the woods to see all of nature's sights. So many bushcrafting channels ignore weight and go for bullet proof survival. Thanks for continuing to share!

@dtoxxyz58713 жыл бұрын
What was the length of Bow stringer you made?
@tylerparker30244 жыл бұрын
For some reason I figured the string had to grab the limbs from the tips cause that's how the leather ones are.
@alanrudolph88806 жыл бұрын
I'd be a liitle scared to use this: I've seen commercial stringers with a saddle-type top loop (Saunders etc.) where the supposedly non-slip rubber on the limb slips off and slides towards the tip. It's really a problem when it's wet/raining. The top limb comes right towards the face at high speed.

?Length of paracord? Your bow length and your height will make a difference. My 40 lb. BRADD NEW SAMICK SAGE took about 87-88 inches of 550 paracord. But I'm only 5' 7" and shrinking. My Small loop is about 1 1/2" folded double and the Large is 5" folded double. Just a guess but make the small loop 1st, connect to bow, held in place with a rubber band, lay stringer out on floor, stand on it with both feet spread a bit, holding bow at a comfortable height and determine how much length you need to complete the stringer and large loop. Add a little extra, temporarily tie it and check before finalizing. Once you have the best length for you and your bow, maybe tie a knot at the center for reference. .

Nice stringer. Had a talk with Mitch Native Survival about a truly silencing system, versus rubber octopus or leather fur fuzzies. Now I can put this down in comments. (1) Paracord. Pull out the threads at one end of the cord. Interweave with the bow string loop, (and yes with manipulation) pull the bow string through the paracord sheathing. Cut sheathing to length so that it is held under the bow string loop and bow wood, and down almost to the nock. Lash the sheathing at the bow nock and arrow nock. Do the same for the lower string. When the string is released, the snap reverberates across the entire string's harmonics. But it vibrates against the semi-loose paracord sheathing and you get a silenced bow snap. If need be, unlash the bow string loops and thread through the sheathing, and then lash up the sheathing and the bow loops. (2) Saw a JoAnn Fabrics product of very loose plastic mesh tubing that could also do this process, and easier to pull bow string loop through. www.joann.com/search?q=tubing#q=tubing&prefn1=prod_type&sz=54&start=54&prefv1=Product Fab Lab mesh tubing. Black or light green color, plastic meshing that can also be camo painted, but this is ~1 1/2 - 2x larger than paracord. Can pull the bow string loop through easier. Being of a looser mesh, it would take any noise with its cross weaving and stop any bow string snap with utter silence. Both items have the potential of being non-grabby in brush and thickets, making travel easier and more quiet for stalk hunting. Just some thoughts.

+John Lord Hmmm...some interesting ideas there. I know speed would suffer with these, because any weight or wind resistance will, but I wonder if it would be the same speed loss as with traditional silencers. Have you tried these methods, or are these thoughts/theories? I am curious if you have had good results with it.
@johnlord83379 жыл бұрын
+RevHiker I haven't done the perfect live bang-and-twang with an arrow, distance, and speed, but have lashed a paracord sheath "onto" (not threaded through) the upper and lower strings with a (no-no) dry snap and it was defiinitely quieter. Everything is relative. Bow string tension, brace height, bow lengths, and bow string draw lengths with conventional bow, recurve bow, long bow, complex bow, crossbow, ... all influence the high speed,, maybe more distance, large snap, ... or low speed, less distance, quieter snap. I believe that this technique can be parts of each of these bows for high or low speed, longer or lesser distance, -and- high or low bow string snap noise. It just needs to be tweaked for ultimate proficiency.
@RevHiker9 жыл бұрын
Cool. I know there are many factors to speed etc. I was just wondering if you had done this and had a perceptible difference. Thanks for the reply.

Won’t that large loop slip down the limb toward the riser as you pull up?
@EdmundMar Жыл бұрын
Probably depends on the stringer length and whether you stand on the stringer with both feet spread apart (as shown) or not. Follow the video.

What's the name of the knot you used to make the loops?

mmm.... what kind of string do you recomend that holds a 41lbs bow???
@RevHiker7 жыл бұрын
robert nidem for the actual bowstring, or for a stringer? For an actual string, use what the manufacturer says. for a stringer, paracord will work great

can I ask the daft question but what with the fluffy bits on the string

Is this as safe for the bow as a comercial stringer?
@EdmundMar Жыл бұрын
It should be as good or better as the loops will self center the pull. Just make sure your knots can't come loose. I might even superglue my knots after gradually testing them. Maybe lookup knot tying for extra safety.

Your bow length and your height will make a difference. Just a guess but make the small loop 1st, connect to bow, lay stringer out on floor, stand on it with both feet spread a bit, right foot on center knot, holding bow at a comfortable height and determine how much length you need to complete the stringer and large loop. The big loop will slide towards the riser.....It needs kind of a rubber pad ....
@EdmundMar Жыл бұрын
That's why he put both feet on the stringer a bit apart, right foot on the center left foot part way up towards the top end. The left foot keeps the large loop from sliding to far down.
