In this video I make a custom three section spoilboard for my Ooznest Workbee Z1+ CNC which is made from a 4ft sheet of mdf but still covers the larger 1270 X 1270 working area of the machine. This setup allows me move the sections around depending on wear and tear and also allows me to remove the front section completely if needed.

Thanks Tommy great video and awesome to have you back. Im not going to say I'll have a CNC because the last time i told you I'll never have a spindle molder I ended up being given a spindle molder to restore and I had to go back and rewatch your spindle molder video so I'm going to save this video just in case. Thanks Tommy. Cheers mate

Clever modification to give yourself extra height Tommy, very simple but I bet many haven't thought to do the same. I'm suspecting your looking to introduce some sort of vertical ability to your CNC by being able to remove the front spoil board and access the hole I saw there. I'm really interested in what you do to make this CNC a 'Tommy special' so please keep them coming Sir.

That's the beauty of a kit style cnc leaves to open to improvements and you are spot on the hole in the bench gave it away 🤣

Hey Tommy, Really Appreciated Your videos on Workbee. I have just finished surfacing your spoilboard and running the grid looking forward to my first real-world project today. Great Design. One thing to note in the video is that the two end clamps do not need to be T pieces. I machined mine up before realizing. Anyway, keep up the great videos, look forward to more CNC content
Ай бұрын
Thank you very much, I'm glad you found my videos helpful. Just a note the end pieces are not T pieces they only have one side machined but will still do the same job with both sides machined 🙂

@ Hi, I’ve got the maffel spindle like yourself, do you have any issues with cutter pull out? I’ve had it a few times now, it feels like I have to really tighten up the collet rather than just the 1/8th nip 🤷
5 ай бұрын
@@Phenrica hi, no I have not had any issues like that since changing over to the mafell. Can I ask are you sure the bits are the correct size for the collet as a 6mm bit will be too small for a 1/4" collet.
@Phenrica
@Phenrica 5 ай бұрын
@ now that’s a good question Tommy, I do have a range of bits and collets (8mm, 6mm, 1/4, & 1/8) and I’ve got them sorted accordingly however I’ve never measured them just taken the manufacturer’s size as true 🤔. Having given them a measure I can confirm that they’re ok. Ooznest’s supplied 😉 it’s the 1/4 up cut and a Rutlands 1/4 compression bit that seem to misbehave, maybe I’ve just not been giving them a good nip 🤷‍♂️ Thanks for the reply Cheers Steve

After many months of thinking about getting a CNC machine, I'm both a computer programmer and maker so this intrigues me greatly, I'm just getting to the point of buying a Workbee Z1+ CNC and have been trawling through the InterWeb to find out more about it. Since I regularly use 8x4 sheets of marine ply I'm aiming to get the 1500 x 1500 version and was delighted to find your series on assembling the CNC and now the creation of a suitable spoilboard. Many thanks for doing this. I look forward to seeing what you do next with this great machine.
4 ай бұрын
Thanks very much, I'm delighted that you found the series helpful. Yes iv been getting mine specific to suit my needs and I think this spoilboard is perfect for the machine and using 8ft sheets. Don't forget if you decide to get a machine to use the link in description of the videos it helps me to continue to create videos 🙂

Very nice modular design , correct me if am wrong but when u switch sections u will have to resurface everything?
5 ай бұрын
Yes if sections are switched it would be best practice to run a surfacing pass just to be 100% sure its perfect

Hi mate, great video. I've recently finished building my workbee, can I ask you, when you surfaced the spoil board, did you use the touch probe? Or did you just hit go on the programming?
4 ай бұрын
I used the probe to set the z height, I set the position of x and y to the centre of yhe spoilboard manually. Hope this helps
