In this video, we'll show you how to make a custom seat cover for a 1975 Moto Guzzi 850T cafe racer with a pleated top. Whether you're looking to restore an old motorcycle or just want to give your bike a personal touch, making your own seat cover is a great way to do it.
We'll walk you through the steps of creating a pattern for your seat cover, selecting the right materials, and sewing it all together. You'll learn how to create pleats in the top of the cover, giving your seat a classic cafe racer look. We'll also give you tips on how to make sure your cover fits snugly and looks great when it's installed.
This project requires some basic sewing skills, but even if you're new to sewing, we think you'll find this tutorial easy to follow. With a little time and effort, you'll have a custom seat cover that you can be proud of. So grab your tools and let's get started!

I appreciated how you put the camera in super slow-mo playback as you did the sewing...so we could see what was happening. : ) I'm just busting your balls. It turned out pretty darn good. I'd like to learn to sew at some point.

LOL. I would to, but as long as I have Keri I don’t need to learn.

You keep saying you don’t know what you’re doing, but from the outside looking in it certainly looks like you have a handle on things! That came out great!

Thanks. When I say, "I don't know what I am doing", it is out of respect for people who do. We may have the steps down but lack the wisdom that comes with the experience of doing something over and over again. What I do have, is a willingness to give it a shot.

This is an excellent how to do your own seat cover at home video. This is easy to understand and shows that its fun to make your own. You did a really good job with making your templates and showing how to use them. Try making tape for a template and transfer it to paper. Give the hand wheel a turn and start the needle to give your machine a little help starting and hand crank around corners is a little trick. Maybe try a size 18 all purpose or leather needle with 69 polyester thread. However that universal coats upholstery thread your using is just fine. Trim little cuts in the corners they bend a little easier when you are sewing and stretching it in place. Again your video is proof that you don't have to have a walking foot machine to do a nice job on a seat cover. One of the other comments mentioned an industrial machine. If you look in newspaper and industrial auctions for a Seiko, Singer, or Juki industrial sewing machine thats how I got my first industrial machine. If you plan on doing more I recommend a new Juki DNU-1541S machine I love the one I have. So did you have to heat steam or stretch much to get it to fit after ordering your tack strip ? Thank you and I am really glad I found your channel. Great work 👍

You did a great job making that seat. To make it easier you need a walking foot sewing machine. The Walking foot helps you when you have multiple layers of fabric and foam and trim. It grabs the fabric and moves it all together while the needle is through all the layers. A Consew 206 RB-5 is an example. They are expensive but you can find them second hand if you look. The industrial machines are really too fast for me so I bought a motor I could adjust down and used pulleys to slow it even further.

Thanks for the tip. We had loads of fun doing it. This is the 4th or 5th one we had done. Making it up as we go along. 😂

That’s what we were feeling. I purposely left as much in as possible to show we were figuring it out. It took us 45 minute’s before we started to thread the bobbin.

Learning by doing :) As you noticed the tiny machine is struggling. I would go for a 2nd hand industrial machine to make the job easier. Maybe you could make your own panniers in leather or canvas and whatever. Keep it up and have fun. Greetings from an old scout and biker.

We are definitely learning by doing and doing it together. 😂 Is it the best seat in the world? It is the best seat we made that day. It’s the 4th seat(in as many years) we have ever made. Thanks for watching.
