Not everyone does but many weekend warriors do. Check out my latest arcade series which shows how to do it with "simpler" tools. That being said... I have been collecting tools since I was 5 years old. This video shows the classrooms where I teach. This project can be done entirely with a jigsaw/circular saw, a drill, and some patience.

Hi We Build Stuff, Your video was absolutely inspiring for me and gave me the final motivation I needed to build my own arcade cabinet. I must say that this is my first big "professional" wood work and it took me some days, because I wanted to make things right, but at the end I'm very proud with the result. All of my friends and family are very impressed as well, because although I don't have many of the tools you use on the video I managed to cut, drill and mill the borders of wood to produce a nice arcade. Didn't painted it yet and the marquee is missing as well, but I feel very happy each time I use it, and that's thanks to you. Btw, I used your measures and they worked quite perfect, but the side panel layout didn't worked for me, not sure if it was the way I printed it so at the end I made all the measures by hand ;)

I'm using your directions to make my own bartop arcade(btw thanks), the only thing i would change is putting the (#10 NC T-nuts) on the opposite side of the support. I was having the problem where the T-nuts was pulling off. Putting them on the opposite side it pulls the t-nut into the support piece holding it even stronger. Also getting a more plush fit.
@WeBuildStuff
@WeBuildStuff 7 жыл бұрын
I'm doing that for my latest build. The issue I'm having is when I unscrew the #10 bolts the t-nuts fall out the back due to gravity and the teeth aren't gripping the wood the way I want. I might try some adhesive to hold them in better.

Awesome vid great supplement to building on myself since I'm more of a visual learner. I had one issue that caused me a bit of headache and it was that staples actually printed the sides and button layout of the cabinet alot larger than they should have so I ended up with pieces to small for my sides. Simple fix but still wasted a few more hours than I should have

Great video, but I would recommend using zero delay usb boards instead of the GPIO as it makes everything a lot easier to wire/manage. You can pretty much plug any button in wherever you like on the board along with the stick and retropie/recal box will simply detect everything as a USB controller.
@WeBuildStuff
@WeBuildStuff 6 жыл бұрын
ZaPpaul the gpio was just for this build since at the time the encoders I had were not compatible.

Great stuff! my brother gave me a raspberry pi (think its second gen one with 512mb ram) would love to do something with it like a pub jukebox like those mounted on pub walls. im blown away with your accuracy of cabinet making, these look proper professional. MDF gets a bad rap, but as we can see here if its done right can look amazing! you ought to sell flat pack kits, you would make loads of money from this.

Synthematix I'll leave that to proper business people. I have no desire to do that right now. I would rather educate and teach people how to do things with their hands and how to solve problems. I am working on a new arcade series of videos as well as basic machine shop instruction and safety for my students ad a learning resource to supplement what I teach in classes.

I'd advise always installing a set of heatsinks on your pi's. Those CPU's tend to overhead when stressed and your system will shut down in the long end :)

there is some controls now that encode the exit into a usb connector , so you would not need a lot of that wiring at least on the pi side

Spartacus' Skull and Bones yes i know. i have a few of them. when i first started making arcades recalbox didnt have support for the usb encoders i had purchased 2 years ago. i started doing gpio wiring as a way of giving me full control over the end result. my next builds have much cleaner wiring! 😊 thanks for the view

Nice work, I am attempting to do one myself except using a PC instead of a pi. I want something with a bit more kick to play games like Mortal Kombat X & 11 and Killer Instinct for example. Debating whether to use Hyperspin or Big Box . I learned some cool tricks from your video though that have been very helpful so thanks.
