In part 2 we wrap up the Finger Joint Jig build and give the jig it's first test run. The results are great! If time is spent making sure the interchangeable bases and keys are precise, this will reflect in the quality of the results in the end. I hope you all enjoyed this build. And give this jig a try.

Excellent job Laney, I've watched a hundred of these, built one and almost all are either too simple (inaccurate) or way too complicated for what they do. Yours is just right - and it's NOT too wordy. Every word is important to understanding your build....thanks much!

Love the simplicity of this jig. Have been looking for something that would help cut box joints quick and easy. This was it. Put it together in a couple of days from scrap wood around the shop. Your step-by-step video made it really easy to build. Already made two small boxes, only took 10 minutes. Thanks

Thanks Laney, I like the simplicity and adjustability of this jig. I think having a selection of finger templates is superior to the screw advance jig as you set your jig once for each size finger and your done insted of relying on counting turns or advancing the jig for each cut. I will be adding this to my table saw jig collection.

After making three box joint jig, one with the screw advance, two fixed width attached to the miter slot. None were giving satisfying results. I was ready to purchased the incra i-box and be done with it. Then I remembered your version of it and went back to watch the video again. I built your version and voilà perfect 3/8 in finger joints. Extremely detailed video, well made. I've been looking at several vid's on finger joints, and some are very simple. Yours was very complicated in the beginning to get to the making of the joint, but after once made, I can see very accurate joints made over and over at anytime very easily. Worth the original work of making and setting up the jig. Thanks

if you swap out your back piece insert with the one that you used for the same cut earlier you wouldn't need to replace them as each one would be the right size for that particular cut. had a look through the comments and was surprised that some people just want a quick demo with no content. as these video's are going to be mainly directed at hobbyists i think your right in giving the lesson in detail. well made video's good clear explanations. i have to admit i never use finger joints in my work as a cabinet maker but found the lesson interesting none the less.

Love your jig, built one and use it all the time. Figured out how to modify it for use with a single saw blade. Quite simple really, just used a 1/8" key but kept the space between the key and the blade at 1/4" or 1/2" etc. On the 1st cut you place the wood carefully 1/8" away from the key for the first pass and then against the key for the second pass. Next and subsequent cuts you place wood over the key and pull to left and then push to right to make the finger joint the right width. 1/4" box joints would require 2 cuts each, 3/8" 3 cuts and so on.

This is my first box joint jig, I built it this afternoon. I did some test cuts, my fingers are too wide. Can I fix this with the micro-adjuster screw? Help. Well heck, I figured it out. Changing the with of the fingers is the exact purpose of the micro-adjustment screw. The third or fourth try did the trick. It seems that test cuts will be required for every new setup. I love this thing now that I figured it out. Thank Laney, great instruction video.

Hi Laney, great video, I made the jig for my router table, just a couple of problems, the single runner was not too stable with a half inch bit so I added a second runner to push against the side of the table, even using a spiral down bit the piece seemed to ride up unless tightly clamped to the backing board (I'm thinking of adding some sort of clamping bar across the width of the jig to make this easier), lastly I had to make a complete backboard when stepping down to a quarter bit as on the router the bit is centered not flush to one side. Keep up the good work, Robert

Yes the whole is smaller then the head of the screw.. just enough to fit a screwdriver through. As you turn the screw counter clockwise it should push against the side arm moving the fence. There is room for improvement of the micro adjustment design and function. but it works. I may do a follow up talking about it more.

You should keep your joints a little bit lose as the glue will make the box stronger If it's to tight their is no space for the glue so it will break easily I have found this out to my cost on many a project But i like your jig especially the adjustment screw nice thought Good work i will adopt so of your ideas for my own jig

on your jig, did you include the double face (fence) design with the adjustment screw? if so, loosen the wing nuts that lock down the front face of the jig, slide it one way or the other using the micro adjusting screw until you have a perfect fit for your joints. Use scrap pieces of stock to make your test cuts so you are not wasting your good wood. and make sure the scrap is dimensionally the same as your actual work pieces. I hope this helps in some way

Hey Laney! Great video as always. I was thinking about your option of building the jig for a router table. Unlike the stacked dado set - which increases in width in one direction - the router bit increases in diameter in both directions. This isn't a problem though if you use matching bases for each diameter router bit instead of one fixed base and multiple interchangeable keyed bases. It's just a few extra pieces of 1/4" ply and you're good to go! Keep these great ideas and videos coming!

Great videos. I like the design of the jig. I like the simplicity of it and that it's still accurate. Definitely going to make one of these. I've seen other videos and they all seem to call for more hardware than I want to buy at this time. I need to do as cheaply as possible and with this... I already have all the lumber needed... All I have to do us get the bolts. Cheap enough. Can't wait to build.

Noël, as I'm looking at this, I have to say my smaller Craftsman table saw has *grooved* slots. I'd need to make something to slide *inside* the grooves rather than on top. The workaround was to build the sled so big the base extends beyond the side edges of the table saw itself and to glue strips of wood underneath, hugging the sides of the table. Paste wax makes it slide easy. I'd rather have another table saw with the regular slots, but this worked for me.
