In this video I'll show you how to make a homemade table saw using a circular saw.
For various woodworking projects I found that circular saw isn't enough for me. And for more precise cuts I need a table saw. Instead of buying one, I made it by using circular saw.
Try to made it simple and cheap as possible. This table saw cost me only few $ - and that was for screws and zip ties.

This build failed to mention how dangerous this setup is without a riving knife attached . While making a cut yesterday , the piece of timber jammed up on the saw blade and was launched into the wall at crazy speeds . Riving knives have been mandatory on all table saws since mid 2000s for this exact reason . Without it , it’s not a matter of IF but WHEN an accident is going to occur .

And for over a hundred years men used table saws without them. If you want a riveting knife, put one in. Do you nag strangers because they are not wearing a seat belt while driving?

It might have been more productive to explain how or even just paste a link on how to add the safety feature; I cannot take away from the dude who took his time and effort to put together this content; it is Useful & Actionable information; is it complete, perfect or a 100% solution; maybe not; and the subsequent comment about the safety feature is equally useful as well; even though it doesn't include real useful information, beyond presenting a problem.

Thank you so much for the inspiration. I've wanted a table saw for a while and I had all the materials you used with your build, so I built one very similar. The saw I used literally cost me 20 dollars 20 years ago. It's been on a shelf collecting dust not being used. My first cut was perfect on the angle, but the cut was not perfectly straight even though everything is square. I attribute this to the cheapness of my saw. I might have to make a slight adjustment to the fence I use to compensate for not cutting straight. All and all I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Robin you are seeing it all wrong. New DIY people can’t afford to buy all these tools. You spend a fortune ! However , a corded circular saw is cheaper, and better yet, you can buy second hand and make up the frame with wood from anything eg recycling day on your street. You used pounds so I don’t know how much this is in USD but in USD you could make this for $30

That was the first table saw I owned back in the late 70s. I made it myself. I cut some angle iron from an old bed frame, and had them welded together for the stand, then I screwed the wooden top onto it. I still have one today along with the one that I bought from the store, in my workshop

I see people make hybrids like this as a fairly standard thing. They appear to start with a small table saw then build a large platform around it. So I thought "I have a skill saw, there isnt much difference... I wonder if"... then youtube.... My question is, how do you make it to where it can make angled cuts? If you saw out the hole at an angle, would the hole be too big to hold thin material without snagging? U know? But for what I'm doing, I dont see myself needing to cut an angle that often.
@bsdnfraje
@bsdnfraje 4 жыл бұрын
@@MythicGuitarCompany cut a large hole, like 10"x2", route a ledge, and make separate blade inserts. You can make zero clearance inserts for the angles you use most, like 0°,45° etc.

@LBCAndrew
@LBCAndrew 3 жыл бұрын
Is it possible? Yes Is it safe? Fuck no People need to understand that table saws are probably the most dangerous tool in a workshop and when sh*t goes bad, it goes bad catastrophically. How much does it cost for the ambulance ride, hours of surgery, months of physical therapy, and the lost income being out of work all that time if you cut off a few fingers? Tens of thousands of dollars if not more. How much is a cheap table saw with actual safety features like a guard, riving knife, anti-kickback things? About $200-250. Don't get me wrong, i love diy stuff. I make all kinds of jigs, tools, etc. But there are some things that are so incredibly stupid to save a few bucks...
@Fetidaf
@Fetidaf 3 жыл бұрын
@@LBCAndrew I’m so glad you said this since I havent seen a single other comment like yours. I think that table saw is second only to the lathe in terms of “can kill or seriously injure you the second you let your guard down”. Every time I’ve turned one on I’ve been reasonably terrified of it and I think you kind of need to be in order to not lose some fingers... not like completely tense almost shaking terrified but constantly aware of what can go wrong. I understand that table saws are somewhat cost prohibitive to the average person but I’d argue that the average person doesn’t really need one. If you’re just doing stuff around the house a circular saw will get a vast majority of the job done and is a much better option than a DIY table saw... just the thought of people doing this worries me. I think their time, money, and safety is much better spent on just practicing with a circular saw...

I've made homemade tools like a router table and jig saw table, but think a circular saw is a bridge too far. Its awfully dangerous, more so than the other tools I mentioned. Once as a teenager saw someone cut off their finger on one and seen pictures of circular saw accidents. I have an old Craftsman circular saw, but wouldn't build a table, this one I'd prefer ro buy with all the latest safety features. Good luck with your build.
@nateallen325

FX P if your worried about safety you could teach the teenager using it not to go near it with out using a push stick or build a safety board that goes over top the blade so that no one can trip and land palms down on the blade there's all types of ways to make this more safe I personally wouldn't allow kids that didn't know how to work with power tools to be around my stuff to wear they could get hurt this is just. Quick easy way to make a table saw if you don't have one in a job site is yours broke down I don't see this being some ones one and only table saw in less it was for personal use only and in that case if they made it they should have power tool safety in mind while using it

I can always tell when someone hasn't had any formal training in carpentry and this is another plank teaching bad habits. Where's the riving knife, where's the crown guard and where is the feed off table to stop hands reaching to the back of the blade? Some joker will end up with no fingers watching crap videos such as this.

Excellent! I ended closing my home shop and selling my whole set of tools a couple years ago. Now I am in need of do some spare tasks for our house but don't have available room to a commercial table saw anymore and also I don't want to spend the money on something that I will be using just once in a while. I have a good manual circle saw though that fits perfectly in this solution. Having the proper care to use such machine without all the protection stuff it's a very nice alternative. Thank you for sharing!
