I am creating a bunch of junk journals for friends and family. It is a hobby. Not selling. I’m an artist with a studio in my home. Parkinson’s has ended my art career but I have enough hand movement for this. I’ve scoured the internet for tutorials and just really find yours so helpful! You’re my favorite! Your companionship on the journey is appreciated.

Lonni you probably won't read this since it's been 2 years, but there are lots of us who are in the same boat working at home because of health issues. Pam makes my day with her down to earth ways filled with humor . I don't think she knows she helps so many people. She is my hero , she keeps me laughing.

@@artanddebearickson9729 I hope you see this. Same here. I have health issues that prevent me from working. I am in thr early part of year two, though it still feels like literally yesterday, of the grieving process of the loss if my husband. I am literally trying to find ME again. I love Pam @The Paper Outpost loving sweet, its all ok, personality. I don't even need to watch others. Pan is perfect for me. I haven't even made my first journey but she sure has helped me. @Lonni, you are amazing!! 💖 You take care and know that Jesus and I both love you. I feel like everyone here is my friend. Blessings to you and yours. ❣💖💕💕💚💙🤗😘📚📜📒

in a world of safeguarding techniques and constructing new inventions, ( copyright and patents ) you are so generous with your talent. sharing the learning process shows you are not threatened by the influx of new crafters and talents .you are comfy in your skin. I think you just want to share the fun and self improvement with the masses. I myself have started here with you today and using a empty carton to start my book. your self effacing attitude really allows the stress we feel melt away. thank you Pam.

Oh wow, THANK YOU Pam for sharing with us how you put your fabric covers on your journals. I have never seen it done that way before or without gluing the fabric to the front and back covers as well. That's just saved me a whole heap of glue and frustration as gluing the fabric to the boards has always been such a faff in the past!! I'm definitely giving that a try with my current DT project journal cover :) Crafty hugs lovely, ~ Victoria (Minxy!) xx

Hello and THANK YOU! ONE HALF HOUR AFTER WATCHING 3 PARTS OF YOUR VIEDO I MADE 2 FABRIC COVERED JOURNALS!!! WOOHOO!! I had really been in a funk because I just didn't know how to get started! I have looked on KZfaq for other things but never thought of looking for a beginners JJ video. WHO KNEW??? THANKS TO YOU I AM ON MY WAY! BTW I used CANVAS PANELS as my covers. They come in packs of 5 for $7.99 at hobby lobby and with them being on sale 50% off $4.99! I cut the 2 spines out of the 5th panel with an Exacto knife. That is $2.50 per cover! If I could post a picture of the before and after I would. You are a GODSEND!!! I feel SEW blessed to have found you. A MILLION THANK YOU'S!!!

Oh Pam, just watched Part 1 and now into Part 2. You are making these soooo interesting, and I just love that you haven't cut-out that bit in Part 1 where the the duct tape creased on the spine. Something we all might do and panic! Going back to Part 2 now as I am making a hard backed cover for my sewing machine manual and want to cover that in material too. Which reminds me, I love that you are telling us what you techniques you have tried in the past and improved on. You are a mine of information. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series. Thanks again Pam.

I watch everyday, but don’t often comment...As I watched you first add Tyvex tape and then Duct Tape, I cringed trying to figure out how in the Dickens you were going to sew in your signatures....I made my first journal(quite a mess) and used “Decorative Duct Tape” for a spine...OyeVey, what a tragedy.....since then, I have tried a power drill....also a FAIL....now, I have a really sharp awl and it never lets me down...I am loving this....I am going to try this😉😉😉

That embossing buddy, I made one with baby powder filled into a nylon sock, another nylon sock (tied the first one off) then put that into one of my son's old baby mittens so now I have a little hand buddy. Looks cute and works perfectly. I played around with the layers because I kept feeling like too much powder came out but the 2 layers of nylons plus the fine-knit mitten were perfect.

Always cut off the entire selvedge, about an inch from the edge. Selvedge is woven much more tightly than the rest of the fabric. Leaving it on not only limits the stretchiness of the cover but over time the selvedge will shrink.

The rope on the spine was actually linen cord and provided strength because they were frayed and glued to the front and back covers under the inside decorative pages. ❤️

I have an algebra book cover that I was able to take apart with the spine attached to it except for a small oops cut of the knife. I want to keep the outer spine looking like the original. I used fabric to repair the oops but wondered if you had a video to attach the signature without poking holes in the original. Hope that’s clear as mud. Thanks 🙏🏼

I just found junk journaling 3 days ago. I have my 1st journal started. I realized after I put my fabric on the cover that I only squared my spine but I forgot to cut it down. It's about 1 1/2" wide. Should I add another signature or just add pages to the two I have started?

Do you have a video on using cardstock as a cover instead of a piece of cloth? I am new and don't have many supplies yet. I am sure you must have one somewhere and I just missed it :) I love your videos they are not just informative but funny too. I have my spine made ready to cover, and my signatures ready to install... onward ho!

Just started in jouraling. So take your time and do a very good job in construncting your cover and spine. I assume old shirts, pants, and under shirts will work. Remembr, your signiture holes are now playing hide and seek with you.

Hi Dana, I am not sure if its strong enough to work on fabric but it should work fine with paper. Be sure to place it close to the edges :)

You could've glued the spine fabric down first, before the inner side pieces... That way the spine fabric sides could've been hidden more so you don't see the ends when you first open the journal📖

How is the pouch filled with cornstarch used in embossing? I have been looking for one, and I couldn't find the pouch and I forgot how it was used. Do you know by any chance? Thank you!
@ThePaperOutpost
@ThePaperOutpost 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Barbara, if I recall correctly you wipe the cornstarch pad across your page then stamp your page with the clear ink. Then sprinkle your embossing powder down, tap off unused powder. The cornstarch helps the little speckles of unused powder not stick to your paper. Then use heat gun to melt the embossing powder. Here is a link to video demonstrating this if not clear: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mMyjqNeVzZrFkX0.html Hope this helps :)

Oh, those nasty mitered corners!!! People who only do paper crafting transfer what they know to fabric and run into all kinds of problems! I started out sewing 70 years ago (I was 3) so that has saved me lots of frustration. When mitering fabric, especially loosely woven fabric, you do not cut - or you do not cut first. How you did it is perfect. If you are sewing, you usually fold the fabric so that you have a little pocket for the corner, stitch the corner and flip it inside out. Much more complicated than mitering for a book cover! I have been crafting/sewing for so long I don't think about it much, but I am ALWAYS on the lookout for an easier way to do it! For mitering paper covers, cutting a wedge out really does help if the paper is cardstock weight or more. That paper will bunch up and make a mess if you don't. Most fabric is much more pliable. Even when I have had very heavy fabric for book covers, I have had to trim out a bit but leave a tab of fabric to glue down, cutting out some of the bulk. Usually, folding the corner first will let you see if there will be a problem - and then I just cut out some of what doesn't show. :D
