Hello Pam, I'm writing this comment 30 seconds into the video. I had to pause it of course to say a very warm, heartfelt thank you for this tutorial. I'm an absolute beginner and every journal making video I have watched is charging around $100 for their online courses. And here you are providing the info for free. As I said I have not watched your video yet, but I felt the need to say a big thank you before I hit the play button. THANK YOU PAM.

This is something I discovered in relation to the thicknesses of chipboard. If you absolutely don’t have anything else to use, head over to the DOLLAR TREE and pick up a few 3 ring binders, you can cut apart the front and back covers and then cut way the plastic cover. It is not glued to the chipboard andirons is a great thickness it makes wonderful journal covers. When my husbands office was moving to a paperless office, he gave me all of his binders, file folders and hanging folders, alligator clips as well. There were at least a hundred binders. Any time I find them at yard sales or estate sales I pick them up just for the chipboard.

I was so excited to see you do this series! 1, because I realized there are 3 videos and I get to watch all three, 2, because I love to see the different ways people construct their covers and you always find a tip or something that works and 3, because, you are doing them all in the same day! Yay! No waiting until another day! ❤️

Hi Pam, you mentioned that when gluing the cardboard pieces together that the glue bond was less strong when gluing the finished sides... As a suggestion, a bit of sanding to scuff the surface then while it for dust and it should be as good or nearly to the unfinished sides

Have you ever thought of using pizza boxes. These make good firm covers. I save the lids and the coragated peices that dont get stained for crafting. I also used the bottoms of the large paper grocery bags I do reinforce these with another layer of the bag as they are a little thin alone. Since you told us that rough to rough is a stronger hold, why don't you rough up the smooth surface with your sanding block to make a stronger hold ?

Love your videos. I’m a beginner and found a piece of heavyweight scrapbook paper that I would love to use for the front on my journal. I’m doing a themed journal first - garden, flowers and birds. You said it’s best to use fabric. Is there a way to scrapbook paper? Do you have a video showing how to use it? If not would it be possible to use the fabric covering then glue the paper to the front to fit my theme.

Hi Marlene! Thanks for your comment! Yes I mean fabric :) Fabric is an easy way to cover journals! Old Tshirts work great! :) You don't need to be rich to make junk journals just grab some junk mail and old makeup and any papers you can get your hands on and you are off and running! :) Sometimes they make the best journals! So have fun Creating with reckless abandon!

Hey Ms. Pam. I blame you for causing me to see small packaging, like band-aid boxes and medium sized gauze boxes, as mini journals 🤣😂🤣. Thank you for that. I am seeing current items as something different. I really didn't want to throw them away but I had to 'cause I don't have anywhere to put them in my rig where my partner wouldn't be tempted to throw them away anyway. Big hugs. ❤️😍😊👍 and thank you. The ideas I'm storing until I can get home again, are increasing.

Oh I asked too soon you totally answered my question in the video by using duct tape and packing tape both of which I have access to. Yay. One day I'll get tyvek

Yes and you can use white glue too but may b=need to wait for it to fully dry and set up first. Aleens tacky glue :)

I know that you have taken your time to help us and it’s all great (with one small exception). I will try to never use Duct tape again. My darling baby book just sitting on the shelf after about a year, and not even handled, and I noticed that the duct tape was coming off. Yikes! I have never tried the packing tape but I love, love, love the Tyvek, either the tape (maybe with a little glue added) or a Tyvek envelope cut to size and glued on with Fabritac or Art Glitter Glue.. Please take this as a helpful hint and keep making your cheerful beautiful journals!!💕

Hi Donna, yes I think a bit of glue would help that duct tape stay in place if its lifting :) And yes, I agree, some glue initially when making the book can help too. Some duct tapes are stronger than others. They should be made, in general, to handle some environmental stresses since they have to perform in ducting systems but who really knows. I have not run in to that situation yet but anything is possible :) I have not had any problems with the duct tape, packing tape or Tyvek tape myself. Now washi or masking tape? That's another story ;) Thanks for your note! Pam :)

The Paper Outpost Pam, you are a doll!! Keep doing what you do. We enjoy your videos so much! And I think that you are correct, the duct tape that I used, I now do believe was inferior. It was the Duck brand not the real duck tape which I think you’re right that the real stuff shouldn’t just melt off the page like mine did. I want you to succeed. I can’t do what you do! You are great!💕

Hi Pam! Watched this series to bind my junk journal by sewing in signatures for the first time! I don't like to measure, so I eyeballed putting holes in spine w/a bit of assistance by ruler to keep somewhat straight lines! Overall, really good for my 1st sewn in signature junk journal! 1 signature does sit higher than other 2 + it's going to be way huge once I've added stuff! I have 3 signatures in mine but thinking about possibly removing 3rd one! Have you ever removed one from your sewn in junk journal? I did actually see another video where another crafter had done so but she didn't film the actual removal. Of course, all you need to do is cut the string + as the other crafter did, fill in the holes w/string if not covering up the spine. Will need to post pics in the FB group! Thanks again for your creative ideas + inspiration! Appreciated! =)

I am so very proud of you Viv! You nailed it spot on! :) That's how I would remove a signature too :) As you make more journals you will get better at innately knowing how many signatures to put in :) Removing one signature might leave it a little front heavy if you take the back one out but it will still work fine :)
@VivianLovesToCreate

@@ThePaperOutpost Thanks Pam! Appreciate that you responded! Just realized, I could remove 2 + 3, then put 2 as the last one, and place thread in middle! That might make it less front heavy! And I could put like my supply pouch or small journal(

I'm thinking that magazine covers glued together might work for a cover. They usually have such pretty pictures on the covers. I also used two bottoms of a paper bag and covered them with torn peices to mall faux leather EBay has that tyvac tape for $ 13.00 a rool it's called sheating tape. It's 2' s 164 '

Hi Pam, hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I purchased a finger blade off amazon, I find it much sturdy for me to use. Also, I ordered a mat today..lol Merry Christmas to myself, Black Friday sale. I used a snack box to make an Ephemera holder, I covered it with scrapbook paper and sewed in 6 signatures. I also used the large crop o dile to make my holes in the spine and signatures, Eve Spaid has a tutorial, so much easier for me. Thanks for sharing yours..on to the next one..👍🎄🎄🎄

Dear, that is NOT an awl...it is an ice pick. My father in law was an ice man and that was a tool he carried in a sheath to chip the ice. An awl is much much shorter, but just as "pointy".
