Good morning, Joie. As I've been rewatching your videos, I've been reminded to pull things out, such as magazine pages. As to that music paper, my first question would be 'If I don't incorporate any of this into a journal, what am I going to do with it? Will I enjoy it more in a journal or in its original form. I hope that helps. I'm featuring you on my channel all this month. on 6/7/23 I'm talking about covers and page selection. I hope this finds you feeling well. Hugs & Creative Blessings!

I really like your creativity and craftsmanship. My current "stash" is mostly travel info I've saved from different trips. Maps, brochures, coasters., menus, receipts etc. I get so much because this is the type of paper memorabilia I enjoy. Maybe I will try to make a junk journal for each trip, rather than a detailed travel journal or scrap book....then just print out photos to go on top of the pages or in the pockets and do minimal journaling on some tags. I am trying to figure out how to catch up with my travels, and scrapbooking or travel journals seem even more elaborate. Have you ever done a specific-trip-junk-journal?
@joiedefi
@joiedefi 4 жыл бұрын
That collection of ephemera sounds great. I haven't done a specific travel related Journal, but I've just made a Journal for a specific person to reflect who she is, her personality and her hobbies. As long as you enjoy what you're doing it doesn't really matter what you do or how....i look forward to hearing more about your next steps, keep me posted!! Joie ❣️🌿

Thank you Joie for making it easy to do and understand. I didn’t get the point of junk journaling when all I saw were there great masterpieces I would be afraid to touch, let alone write in. You, in your videos, have made me get the point and it’s when you make your own, that’s when it’s fun. Anyway, after watching this video a few times I did it. I gathered some papers and found some really nice ones and put it together. Small...the cover is 8” square unfolded (about 20 cm-I cheated and looked on the ruler) but anyway it looks pretty good. Thank you again. I would never have done this without you.

This is so helpful Joie, thank you for sharing all these great books for inspiration and your lovely journal tutorial. I recently bought an old music book from the very large Antiques and Collectors fair on Newark Showground. The book is called Mazurkas von Chopin and is not dated but thought to be from the 1890s. I told the seller what I wanted it for and how I’d feel very reluctant to pull out it’s pages and cut it up. He told me that all the books he has for too long that don’t sell are sent away to be pulped and many end up like that, especially old music books. The Chopin book is beautiful, aged with golden brown pages and a hard red cover and cost just £2.00. So, I began pulling pages from the back to begin my preservation of them in the junk journals I intend to make. Since doing that however, I found a similar book online valued at £20.00, so although not valuable it’s still a lot more than I paid for mine, so something to bear in mind. Hope this helps you with the lovely Mendelssohn book.

An what your saying about not being able to cut into a book was my fear . But I'm filling better about it now because alot of my books has such beautiful pictures an I always thought it's such a shame I an know one else gets any pleasure looking at them when they are in the book so cutting them out an placing them in journals is very exciting for me now your really sharing with others an not having a book on a shelf that's sitting an not being appreciated an enjoyed . Somehow it's a much cooler challenge to make a journal out of old envelopes and a crossword magazine than using all those pretty papers and scrapbook supplies. I am one that never likes to take apart books, so I can identify with your being hesitant about your music book! That being said, I was lucky enough to come across four music books at my local thrift store, which I bought quickly. They were all German orchestra music, which I really like because there were no words, just musical notes. One book was incredibly old, and it did hurt me to cut into it, but I did! I figured that I bought it for that reason. The books are like the one you have too. You might ease into it by just cutting one page and go from there?

I am getting the itch to create another junk journal. I haven’t for a few years. I love making them and seeing so many ways of creating them. A travelers note book size may be a perfect re-boot. I have all along continued to gather bits and bobs to put in them. My only bother is I have my stuff between two places in the lower level as my craft space.. SIGH. I will have to get it figured out. Thank you for sharing.

Hi! You said you were struggling as to whether or not to cut up the music book. I'm a bibliophile, so I have a really hard time thinking of cutting up any book unless it's already falling apart! My suggestion would be to scan the pages, print them, and coffee- or tea-stain them. You can find good-quality print paper that feels like the old pages and, once stained, would even more so. I feel like our books are part of our culture and don't want them destroyed. Of course, there are some that I wouldn't struggle with (for instance, dollar-store books). But otherwise, I try to save them whole. Hope that helps!

This has been so useful for me, quite comprehensive and I appreciate the clear explanation at every step 💙💜 I have been wanting to make a junk journal for a while but never knew where to start as I thought it would look messy due to all the different types of pages and patterns that go into it. It is the beauty of the junk journal to a large extent I just thought I would not be able to make sense of all the visual interest somehow... I feel encouraged to try definitely, I have a lot of the needed supplies too, I hope to be able to get around to it in May. Thank you for sharing 💐
