I've had a lot of trouble with this method of dirty pouring. By adding the alcohol ink on top of the resin before pouring I ended up with soft dice that wouldn't fully cure (similar to his issue during his petri video). The method that worked better for me was pouring small cups of fully mixed different colored resin into one larger cup to make layers. Saw it in a GarageQuest video on youtube. Gave me much better results.

I'd say even with the origins of your old mica powder, you might as well use it up; otherwise it's a bunch of little bits that won't decompose ending up in the water, or you have it sitting around forever. Besides, you've already paid for it, the company doesn't care what you do with it. The best option is just to not buy more when it's gone, and probably mention when you do use it that you're just trying to use it up. Or even limit it to personal projects you don't record, to save the effort there.

So I have some tips: (hit me up on Facebook under PartyPaladinDice if you wanna talk, I would love sharing tips and tricks among us) - It can help to make dirty pour dice in 2 batches, because it talkes longer to pour them. This way your last dice are still as flowy as the first dice. - I use the small silicone cups with a spout to pour each individual die. And repeat the dropping of color process for each die individually. This way the dice are more uniform, even though this technique does whatever it wants so it's not foolproof. - if you add a small layer of clear, the resin you pour in after will look encapsulated in the clear (if that's the effect you want) - if you add clear in your pour cup, you get more depth and possible windows in your dice. You will have swirls inside too, not just at the surface of the die. (see my spring set for examples)

Since i cannot afford a pressure pot I want to give a tip for people who aren’t using one: Invest in a heat gun and heat your mixed resin in the mixing cup and let it stand for a good five minutes for the bubbles to leave before pouring, it works wonders! Even if you don’t buy a heat gun, let the resin rest before and after pouring (but before putting on the cap!!!) I love Mad Mica, I use them in soap. But, just so you know, only natural mica is sourced by child labor. Most micas are synthetic however, especially the less expensive brands. You can always check a manufacturer's site to find out if the mica is natural or synthetic, and if they're certified ethically sourced if natural. Mad Micas is amazing though, I would definitely recommend!

I just wanna add to the mica convo; there’s not really a good way to source mica ethically because companies will purchase mica mined by children and bury its purchase in an “ethical” mine then sell to companies like mad mica. I’m sure mad mica is doing a good job of *trying* to ensure they source ethically but it’s not realistic. Synthetic mica is just as pretty and doesn’t come with the implication of child labor. I only recently learned this myself so there’s no bashing coming from me just wanted to put the information out there. I appreciate your conscious effort none the less!! 😍

the white on the blue set looks awesome, and I particularly love that you share my love for readable dice. You'd think it would be the norm but damn some people make hard to read dice. I have a friend who owns a black set of dice. They are black, the numbers are etched into it. No colour for them, just black. Hard to read from up close, almost impossible from a distance.

A possible suggestion for a future video? I recently discovered the ancient Royal Game of Ur and instead of buying a game, I want to build it. What I would like to learn is, how to pour the four, D4 dice needed with no numbers BUT....with two white(or off-color)corners. Yea, I could paint the corners but well...you know. lol It would be awesome to be able to pour the corners , then the rest in a 'nail polish color' called ''Vamp'', which has a red base with a thin black overcoat, so the red 'bleeds' through like an under-painting and then two bright red corner tips on each one. Thanks for any help and keep up the good work with the awesome videos!

Amazing videos. Really enjoyed them. I’m trying to make my own dice but I seem to be having issues with voids at the top of the mold. My wife got me a set from wish and no matter what I do, since I don’t have a pressure pot, I keep getting voids at the top number (typically the 1 slot). Looking forward to making my own molds though soon. Thanks for the videos and keep up the great work.

I tried making my own sets of dice, the microcbubbles proved to be too large, so inking was hardly possible, and i was using an early type of sprue method with no toothpick, i am currently about to buy a pressure pot and make new molds.

NurtureSoap and BrambleBerry also sell micas that are ethically sourced. They're cosmetic grade and disperse as well as any other mica, plus with NurtureSoap you can get a few that are 5-25 micron particle size, which is great for a light shimmer and also for dispersing in water for a liquid center dice.

The Tim Holsts mixtatives also have resin in and that's how they can get that solid color. So it might have dried up towards the end.
