Man I have drifted away from knives the past 6 months. I’m back and wow what I’ve missed. You’re right, you had no desire to do leather. 😳😳😳 that sheath is gorgeous!!! What a 180 degree change. I’m super jealous. I still have the leather you recommended to me quite a while ago. I’m gonna get back into trying out the leather.

Man I sure liked watching your tutorial. I've made over a dozen or so sheaths and have only been doing leatherwork when I can for about 5 months. I don't have all the tools and stuff you do but it sure is nice watching it done. I'll have to get some of that leather you've got. I've just gotten hobby lobby stuff and it's thin so I'll have to redo my sheaths at some point...but hey it's helped me learn.

I have watched your video at least half dozen times. Here's the highlights: clear, concise, easy to follow and most of all the narrative is in cue with the video. My question is do you make sheaths to sell? the one in your video is an exact match to what i need. I just don't have the time or the skill. I have so many other projects going on I can't start another one. But as clean and meticulous as your work is I would like one of your sheaths. If ou have a website I can check out. Thank you.

That tool that was used to make the tooling border deeper is a tracing stylus when used for working on leather. I have seen Japanese Crimson pricking iron being recommended as a good set of irons. They can be used to mark the placement of stitching holes or to punch them all of the way through the leather because they are a hybrid of pricking iron and punching tool.

Very good video, I'm possibly about the same stage with leatherworking in that initially I wanted to be able to make sheaths for my knives, I still picked up some good tips from your work! like your sheath a lot, I will try it for knife I have just finished, Have you tried ritza tiger thread for sewing, really nice, made in Germany I think, keep up the good work..

I definitely don’t have the patience for a sheath that nice. I’m gonna have to stick to Kydex for now.

Amazing tutorial, but I'm not that professional (yet). What would you recommend for a sheath that requires less leatherworking tools that i dont have? Maybe you could do a tutorial for a more basic version using basic tools that would appeal more to the beginner?

Hey Aaron, there are some cheap leather tool kits on Amazon that could get you into the game.

looks great but you should basket weave first then do the border stamp it helps cover the ends of the basket weave

@@RedBeardOps is that half inch welt measured from the blade? Or from the previously mentioned 3/32 line? Couldn't quite tell from the video?

Nice work. Just a thought you inspired with this video...what about chip carving or checkering the knife handle to match that dope basketweave you achieved? It's what my old boss called 'repetition of a theme' when he was preaching the sawdust gospel.
