It's kind of funny how even the Ultimate Universe Moon Knight still gets it right, for all the changes and how briefly it was around. He literally took down the Kingpin by getting killed by him, surviving, and becoming a witness to testify against him. Who plans that? He might not even had planned that, but it just worked out!

They need to do the opposite of the "costume hang-up" trope, and instead, have a Moon Knight series where he refuses to put up the costume at all, ever. Sleeps in it, goes out in it, and alienates everyone around him because he likes the suit so much

When Logan did the whole “comic book is unrealistic.” joke, it actually worked in the context of the story because that’s how the kids saw him and the X-men.

I'm glad the show so far isn't shying away from the supernatural and alternate perspectives. Kinda wish Marc got to be more brutal. If you can't do blood, have him break his victim's bones. Blood isn't the only way to show brutality.

I love that the character with split personalities also has such an array of comic storylines to him. Imagine a show where season to season the main actors stay the same but the director and visuals and pacing are completely unique? As if it’s being told from one of Moon Knight’s personalities/perspectives, then the next, etc. An exquisite corpse of a show.

I think the most important part of the comedy aspect, because it's in the MCU, is they need to write jokes AROUND Marc's DID without making his DID itself into the joke. Hopefully they could just get a showrunner who has DID to head the show, but I don't think the MCU is gonna do any more than just have 1 consultant with DID to make sure it isn't just straight up offensive.

I sort of want this series to be sort of anthology. I had a thought that maybe the framing device of the series could be Specter sharing stories about his life and/or superhero stories in therapy. Definitely do the “maybe real magic maybe mental illness” and occasionally make Konshu f u c k i n g t e r r i f y i n g please.

The MCU Moon Knight suit is by far my favorite. I’ve never liked his comic suits, except for one which I kind of like. I want Egyptian aesthetics and THEY DID IT. It looks perfect.

I'm a huge Moon Knight fan...he's the character that originally got me interested in comics. I agree with a lot of your points, cause I'm apprehensive about his characterization on screen more than the plot points , especially when it comes to his Dissociative Identity Disorder. I really hope the screenwriters take the approach that the Lemire storyline did, where Marc's experience of death/resurrection and interaction with "Khonsu" was so shattering to his psyche that he developed alters to cope, one each representing a different aspect of Khonsu that Marc witnessed/interacted with. Basically, I hope they don't do the whole thing that a lot of writers do with DID, where they use the mental illness as the whole gimmick of a character and overdramatize it (usually for shock value or to make up for lazy screenwriting), instead of integrating that one mental illness into a larger framework to create a well-rounded character that we can be interested in as a person, not as a mental illness. Also wanted to say great video! Glad I found this channel and I'll definitely check out more vids!

I feel like the show could do what the more recent comics did. The whole standalone episode structure would be great. Have the first episode set up Marc and his origin and then have every episode after he different

After seeing the first piece of trailer footage for the moon knight show, it honestly kind of feels like they took Xavier’s advice from this vid, and it definitely looks pretty promising.

One thing I remember is that the individual runs tend to differ on the actual origin of Moon Knight's condition, typically hanging it either with the author or with recent-for-the-time changes in the world's general understanding of D.I.D. For example, in the OG run, his personalities were cover identities that became more and more real, while another had Khonshu be the one to directly cause it and yet another has it having been there since childhood, at least with Steven. And in the runs where it's not Khonshu that caused it, he's usually exacerbating said condition.

Something funny is that I watched the series not knowing anything about MK, I only thought of him as Marvel's batman. I really liked the show and went to the comics (Ellis and the recent 2021 run, and some of Lemire's) and realized that comic's Moon Knight is far more better that the show. Still a good show for me

The moon based powers made perfect sense seeing as he was revived by the moon god and his life force being tied to konshu would mean he’d be stronger/weaker depending on moon phases etc. though I think the first season should focus on the mystery of what’s in his head and what is genuine mystical powers and less on the specifics of how they work and change within him. Which considering the changing nature of the character can easily be enough to hide that for a season so the moon aspect of the character can be explored and add new layers in later seasons

This is so rad, I’ve always like moon knight so seeing how my fears for the show are shared it make me feel better about worrying for this show but also hopeful that they keep the writing good and the characters better.

I don't read comics, but coming back to this after the first season is over, I think it was fantastic! I though the writing was really tight, the relationship between Marc, Steven, and Konshu was hilarious, and even the supporting characters like Layla and Taweret were really funny. I got really invested when we learned about Marc'ss backstory and how he created Steven as a coping mechanism. Seeing Steven realize he wasn't the original was heartbreaking

I think it would be interesting if they had a subplot about MK’s separate personalities in a struggle with each other, only for the conflict to peak in like the second to last episode of a season or something, where they go all out in that episode, with different directors and styles being used for each of his personalities perspectives (similar to what was done in the second volume of lemire’s 2016 run)

I really hope they do a deep dive into the other characters in his life as well. Outside of his relationship with Khonshu, the relationship with Marlene is one of the most unique I've seen in comics. Marc's DID has serious implications in his relationship with Marlene, especially with the fact that she only really seems to love him when he's Steven Grant (which is why I found it weird that Jake was the one that got her pregnant in that run). She's a spoiled, rich kid that just wants to have a normal, care-free rich life and hates Moon Knight so much that she walks out of the relationship in the Fist of Khonsu series. She's constantly straddling the line of genuine care or manipulation.

it's a great show so far, though i do wish Marc and Steven did wear the suit more often.

It's like if Ironman had a virtually unstoppable armor, then reverted to the mark 3 because his stupid nickname didn't catch on...HEY WAIT A MINUTE!

I also feel another reason a lot of us comic fans are worried is because we realized more than anyone else how formulaic the MCU brand is. Are they willing to do the weird storylines and will they stick to the same exact good guy fights bad guy one? Moon Knight could very easily become one of the most creative superhero shows if they incorporate every good aspect of every run. Hell it could be the Disney + Daredevil series, except it will put Moon Knight way up there so there is no comparison, hes not white Daredevil he's not Marvel's Batman, he's the household name the distinguished Moon Knight!

I'm glad a video like this exists, because I desperately struggle with understanding Moon Knight. I read the Ellis run and really liked it, but that's about it. I never know how to approach the character. Marvel's characters always have an elevator pitch origin, but Moon Knight needs someone to hit all the buttons. I will say in the Dante example, they do make that stupid joke with the hair, but the game concludes with him getting his white hair.

The immortal hulk book gives me hope that even if the show is changed the comics will not be effective. That hulk book is nothing like any of his movie appearances and he is one of their most well known characters.
