Movie car chases can be a part of many different genres in films and when added, can be the boost of adrenaline the story needs. Ever since the 1968 classic Bullitt starring Steve McQueen, there have been countless car chases and car chase movies that have been brought to the silver screen, with each one trying to upstage the last.
MFP has assembled several of what it considers to be some of the benchmarks of this category of film and has dived in to discuss and analyse once and for all what makes a great car chase.

Enjoyed this. Only thing I would have added is the original "Gone in 60 Seconds"

Cheers. It was considered, but since there has been issues recently with other youtubers who had their tribute cars taken away by the estate of the original film for "infringement", I did not want to "advertise" the film on their behalf.

To live and die in la is such an underrated movie. The real tension in the car chase makes it seriously memorable.

" Smokey and the Bandit" and " Knight Rider" made me a life long T/A owner. I have had several 2nd gens two 3rd gens and one 4th gen. When I needed to do some work on my T/A and was not in the mood to do it. I would watch the Cannonball Run intro to get in the mood. The one fantasy car on that list for me is the Corvette Summer car. I would leave it left hand drive though.

An excellent compilation - hard to think of any major omissions. Good to see a mention of "Goodbye Pork Pie", which is often overlooked.

Great video MFP. Saw several I'm familiar with, and just as many I need to track down and watch. As well as a couple cars I've owned, and a certain bike, the Triupm TR6. Still have my mom's TR6, but sadly, had to give up riding it, along with my 72 Norton Commando 850. Necame an above knee amputee in 7/21. Can't run the RH shifter anymore. They still get ridden, as my wife got tired of riding pilion, and my parents and I taught her how, 20 years ago, wjen we were dating. Had a couple movie car clones, or replicas, most unintentional. Had a 58 "Fury", Belvedere, that I spent 4 years turning into a Christine clone. Picked up a 70 Challenger R/T, this one a Hemi, 4 speed, in Alpine white, having never heard of VP. Clone of the 5 used in the 97 remake. Still have that one, and it was part of my incentive to master my prosthetic. As are my other bikes. My wife is a fan of The Italian Job, and owns a, forget what year, Mini, and a 2014 Mini as well, which yes, are both tuned for performance. She also has her dad's final cruiser, a 74 Holden Monaro. He imported it in 98, and we lent it to the daughter and son in law, to drive from fheir wedding, to the reception. Last, current movie one we have is 50 Studebaker Commander. Think Fozzie Bear's car in the Muppet Movie. Dad found it in a friend's back yard, back in 81, while stationed at Twenty Nine Palms. As well as the 62 Lark he and mom had, when they got married. We drove it to ours in 06. Also have one with a joking connection, a 1983 Chevy K 20, we call the Fail Guy, we use for junting, fishing, and working on the property. Thank you for the memories, and a little homework. And for giving me a reason to smile, on one of my bad days, where I'm limited to my wheelchair. Fall damage, bruised my stump, and it's lainched a full on phantom limb assault. Even with that, riding season is a few weeks away, so I'm typing this while taking a break from prepping one of our bikes for the season. Her birthday present, a 1974 Honda CB 750. New tires on, new battery charging, fresh oil and filter, and new drive gears and chain. Added a Mustang kong queen seat, to get the seat height set for her. Next, tomorrow's job, new rear shocks, and fork oil and new seals. Sinday, after sue comea back from work, her 52nd, it'll be sitting on front of the shop, when she gets home.

Smokey and the Bandit was extremely good But what were they thinking with 2 and 3? The French Connection is rated the Number 1 car Chase !!! 🙈🙉🙊👍🇦🇺

Great video, MFP- almost a greatest hits of some of your other vids with some extras thrown in to boot. For what it's worth, I was channel hopping the other day and happened across the post-Tech-Noir car chase in The Terminator. I've seen the movie literally hundreds of times, but I found myself analysing why that damned chase is still so much more exciting than most modern ones. It has the same quick edits, the same overbearing score, but is somehow a lot more physical and breathtaking than most modern efforts. Maybe it's just grittiness and the sense of fear from Reese and Sarah, but I think it's just the magic combination of factors: low mounted cameras, mostly at eye level, shaking with every bump on the road. Production vehicles, both stolen, with the impression they're pushed to the maximum. No flashy jumps or unrealistic crashes (though Arnie's shotgun blast to the drivers' door would have ended it pretty quickly in real life!). The loud volume of the engines/tyres squealing/sirens that almost overwhelms the senses. And the seediness and mundanity of an urban backdrop- this could be happening in your city, tonight (well, in 1985)- no exotic locale to take you out of the moment, just a sense of realism and palpable danger. Anyway, Terminator isn't as remembered for this chase as much as other factors, and there's plenty of flashier, maybe more interesting chases out there, but it's definitely one of my favourites of all time.

Cheers. I was considering using the chase from T1 for this list. But at one point I had like 80 different movie credits here and needed to trim it down. So I decided to save those clips for other vids.

cgi killed the car chase. when you look at the chases before cgi was available the stunts were all easily performed and physically possible, now they are often not. one clip shown but not truly talked about is the jump in the James Bond: The Man with the Golden Gun. The jump across the river with the 270 degree spin was actually physically done, not fx shots. Makes the whole chase a lot more interesting when the most difficult sequence was actually done for real.

I love movie car chases!!! I recently decided to try implementing a car chase in a short film I’m still writing! Not sure if it’ll stay in the final product, but I’m still in the early early stages! I Haven’t even started the script yet, but I do have a baseline concept outlined! The short isn’t about cars, and the car chase sequence, if green-lit (pun intended), might only be a short bit of the whole end product. (Also, the short film will be mostly animated, so I don’t have to worry about actually breaking anything!) That being said, thanks for making this video! When I ever do attempt a fictional car chase scene, I’ll definitely look back here for some tips!💖💖👍👍🛞🛞
