Knight Rider, even the most futuristic 80s car of its time had its start somewhere, and although the car's official name is the "Knight 2000" many would go know it from day one simply as K.I.T.T (The Knight Industries Two Thousand).
Starting off as a stock 1982 third generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, this icon of 1980s American television, took the world by storm and had continued to inspire and has remained part of pop culture 40 years after it was first introduced to us on prime time television.
Here at MFP we take a look into the build and changes of KITT as it was modified to meet the high demands of the action packed show, where even its theme song is still remembered fondly even to this day and has been replicated across the globe by many fans who this car holds a special place in their hearts.

As it had been pointed out and as it was an oversight that needed better clarification, this video was re-edited in order to help better recognize that although yes, KITT is the most commonly used name to describe the main car from the Knight Rider series, the car's official title was the "Knight 2000" and K.I.T.T (Knight Industries Two Thousand) was the CPU/AI of the vehicle. As a whole, the car was referred to constantly within the show a KITT, though when considered separate entities, the car was the shell that housed KITT and not the other way around. Improvements have been made to reflect this as MFP is dedicated to provide the most comprehensive information available and to the best of our knowledge, about the vehicles that are chosen on this channel to be discussed. "Right time and place" was exactly right. The brand new futuristic looking '82 Trans Am was perfect for Knight Rider, and to launch the decade of computers and high-tech to the world

Great vid, was almost not going to watch it as I know all about Knight Rider from watching the historians channel but still found it interesting, which just go to show how good you are at these break down vids 👍 still waiting on a "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry" vid 😉 oh and you got to do the "Fall Guy" with the film coming out soon...which will be crap of course

Awesome! There was a KITT in the Cars are the Stars museum in Kendal UK that I remember visiting as a kid. I seem to remember that it was supposedly a screen used one? The museum is long gone now and I have no idea what happened to the cars unfortunately.

That was replica build for David Hasselhoff Tour Night Rocker. This car is now Dezerland Museum in Orlando

I loved thos show as a 8 yo kitt was the coolest car I had ever seen cool tech watching TV and playing Atari w Kitts voice made me love kitt even though the 82 to 87 firebird t top was amazing as after kitt I was the delorean that became my favourite car but God I wish Australia could of had the 82 7 trans am even if it was a crappy car just like the delorean r my favourite US 🇺🇸 car here in Australia 🇦🇺 I even watched knight rider 2000

0:40 It was officially named, The Knight Industry's Two Thousand, or K. I. T. T for short. It's in the first episode when Michael meets Devon and Bonnie who show/introduce him to KITT. 1:03 Sorry, I was too much of a fan-atic.

The CPU is "The Knight Industries Two Thousand." The body/Car itself is the "Knight 2000" It is the first thing Devon says when he gets into the car with Michael for the first time "Welcome aboard the Knight 2000" Separate, KITT is KITT on his own and the car is the Knight 2000 without KITT. Combined, it is mostly referred to as KITT as a whole. This was one of the reasons this video was re-uploaded as it is a thing and KITT has referred to himself as "The CPU of the Knight 2000".

@@MFPMapFilmProductions You're right. I'm thrown by the Hollywood lack of continuity because Kitt also has referred to himself in the automotive capacity a lot also. Don't get me wrong, this isn't an argument because it's over Hollywood so I just can't. But seriously their dialogue continuity probably suffered due to do many writers. Okay Idk that number either but it's probably double digits.

@@TA_Plus_Hemi Its all good. This video was redone as it is a technicality. But a legitimate one none the less. Like the idea how Optimus Prime is actually three separate components. His Track, his trailer and his "Roller" form. Any damage to one, is a damage to all. Its an odd thing, just like KITT being the "brain" but not the body, but the body is the brain when they are occupied within the same space.

The body and the CPU are not one and the same. The car on its own is the Knight Two Thousand. The CPU is the Knight Industries Two Thousand. KITT is the brain of the car, but the car is not the brain.

I wish I'd never watched the recent reruns of this show. I thought it was a good show but watching last year, I don't like this show anymore. It's rubbish
