I'm used to larger, corded routers kzfaq.infoUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z so this was a different experience for me. Basically, this is an incredibly sweet machine, fits well in the hand, etc. It has slightly less power than I'm used to, but that's understandable. Maneuvering freehand takes some practice. These days, it's especially nice to be able to avoid power cords. This is above the level of a hobbyist but below a pro level.

1) If you use the blue tape hold down on a smooth table surface and the workpiece. Apply the CA (super glue) to the back of the tape on the workpiece and the Accelerator on the back of the tape on the table surface. This gives you an extra few seconds for positioning before the accelerator "kicks off" the CA. And, any bleed-through of the CA will be on the back of the work piece (sand it off) rather than your machine table surface. 2) If you are going to use a table saw (as Garrett shows in this Video) PLEASE use a "zero clearance insert" for the throat of the saw. This will keep the scrap from dropping into the saw. 3) Buy a push-stick or carve yourself one to keep all of your fingers the same number and length. I have been woodworking for 40 years and I have too many acquaintances called "3-finger Joe."
@IDCWoodcraft

This is a nice start to finish tutorial. You have inspired me to try the feather as my first CNC project. After my UCTD diagnosis I sat around looking for something to do, my son I got a small CNC for me for Christmas. And have been humming a hawing about starting something.. Looking for that perfect project. But you have made me realize that whatever project I do it will be that perfect project. Thanks

@@IDCWoodcraft Truly is. Since I'm a complete beginner I'm consuming all your videos to help me make the decisions. The inlay technique really gives me an amazing number of ideas of what can be done. I have a huge source of walnut and oak since I live in Tennessee and have used it for Arts & Craft furniture in the past. Now the idea is Art Deco inlays to go with it....

Thank you so much for making this video. Just yesterday I was designing an inlay for a chef friend of mine, my plan is to put his logo into a cutting board using several species of wood for contrast. Your video cleared up so many questions about depth of cut and offsets between male and female pieces. I'm feeling a lot more confident about doing this, buy yeah I'm going to make a couple of your feathers first.

Garrett, something I forgot to mention, I had purchased a Genmitsu 4030 from SainSmart, part of the package was a free 3 month sub to Carveco. I’m able to find my way around the basics but nothing like inlays. Like I said before I’m new to CNC and might as well say the same goes for computers in general. I sure do appreciate all the assistance the fellows post on KZfaq.
