Led lights are super sensitive to ESD, so make sure to connect a small zener diode anti-parallel to the led if u ever use smaller LEDs otherwise the LEDs will die instantly or after a while due to static tear down.

Found this by chance as I just got into diorama building & am looking for a way to build a static grass applicator on a really tight budget. I think this might be it!

@@PackerAnderson , it is actually a Leyden Jar, named after the city where Peter lived (The Netherlands).
@-never-gonna-give-you-up- Жыл бұрын
@@cindy7911 that city is actually called Leiden :) but its definitely cool to see 2 dutch "inventions" being used together, the Leyden jar to store a charge, and a Van der Graaf principle to generate statistic electricity.

Connect a 12 V, 1 amp motor to a 20 foot length of PVC. Have the motor rotate the PVC tube. Use a tube that is 3 feet long, and from 1 to 2 inches in diameter. Pack the PVC tube in lambswool so that it will develop a static charge. Run three lengths of copper wire along the length of the 3 foot tube to collect the positive charge. Have the output of this system charge a battery. It would be interesting to find out if the output of the static electricity is over 100% efficiency. A simple way to determine this would be to have 3, 12 V batteries of small size. One of the batteries will be driving the motor to turn the PVC tube. The other two batteries would be collecting all the static electricity. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to determine that if it takes 10 minutes to charge 2 - 12 V batteries at the output, and the battery driving the motor has only dropped by 1/10th of 1% in that same time period, you are way over 100% efficiency. For those who share this comment with their math teacher, or engineering teacher, if they’re not able to give you the equation for motor efficiency with an input of static electricity don’t trust them, you must test this, otherwise its dogma and not science.

i can tell you the answer is no it wont hit 100% because you lose energy to friction and heat until we beat gravity there is no free energy sadly

Charge a battery with it, if you connect a piece of felt around a propeller with a light copper foil brush touching the felt, the put it outside in the wind wouldn't it charge a dead battery until the voltage was equal ?, What if you used a sparkletts bottle with that concoction ?

And if you really wanna go all out... Connect the top enc to the antenna on your roof and wait for some bad weather... The house antenna at around 25feet high or above will strip the positive charges out of wind, water droplets and will have a constant mode of charge. With an appropriately connected resister you would have a free source of usable energy... Also look up static motors

Connect a resister for a 5v resistance to the conductor at he top and then try and charge a small device like your headphones... The resistor will prevent the current from all discharging at once meaning the Leyden jar can be used more like a conventional battery... Also look to charge it up with a manual hand crank vandergraffe generator... An electric one can achieve results of over 1 million kv of charge been placed inside the battery... Killer lol... So a hand crank version I imagine will still achieve high end results... That will be a huge step up from your current capabilities... I suggest you learn to earth yourself appropriately though first

Scienceeeeeeee love it. So is there a way to design this to hang it on a do and when people touch the knob it would discharge?
@PackerAnderson Жыл бұрын
Hmm I’ve thought about that, but the nail/saltwater would have to be connected to the doorknob but they would also have to be touching something conductive that is discharged so maybe if they were barefoot on a metal mat or something…🤔

Who can help me? I wanne be electricty loaded. One endgoal is to lighten a sigaret with electricity flowing trough my fingers. - by tuchting the two fingers (thumb and an other one) - by bringing my hands close to each other. I wanne go to a convention as Stein (from Soul eater). And he has a screw through his head. I wanne do it so as i can turn the head of the screw to activate or deactive the electricity. I van have some cables go down to my hands and have some metals at the end conectet with ruber to my body. And maibe also have a static part for touching others. Think it can bring a lot of fun. ESPECIALY if i can have visible electricity go through my hands.

A Leyden jar is a capacitor. It's not a battery. Batteries and capacitors are two entirely different things. And batteries have to do with current; they have nothing to do with static electricity.
