In this video, I teach you how to make a rim strip for your bicycle wheel using duct tape. The basic idea behind the rim strip is to cover the holes in the rim where the spokes stick out to prevent them from puncturing the inner tube in the tire. If you ride a mountain bike or something else with a tubeless setup, you will need to be more careful to ensure that your rim strip is airtight.

1:07 - Tear tape and place it around the rim
2:23 - Poke a hole in tape for valve stem
2:44 - Check for any missed spots and cover them up
3:14 - Put tire/ inner tube back on
Then you're done!

Ah electrical tape, should be the right width too. Maybe I'll give that a try instead of using duct tape.

I found on a bike we had for years that the manufacturer had not cleaned the flash from the outer rim holes (double-walled rim) . Never saw that until tearing out the rim tape when I saw a glint of aluminum when fixing yet another flat.

Great idea, think my stock strip is causing my valve stem flats, the valve stem hole's elongated and believe it slips around the wheel pushing the valve stem enough to tear it from the tube.

Water getting on the tape? No not on mine. I just did this on a tubeless tire and it worked to seal it 👍🏼

What about the adhesive? Will it not leave adhesive on the rim when you remove the tape?

A bit of goo-gone should do the trick if the adhesive residue is a problem later

Yes make sure you use tough tape and cover all the holes where air could escape

Can you use duct tape of you don't have gorilla tape. If you tape it around the bike rim 3x will it be better instead of doing it once ??

Gorilla tape is just a brand name for a type of duct tape, although Gorilla has a reputation for producing reliable products. I would choose a brand like Gorilla, 3M or Duck for longevity.
