i use old inner tube as rim tape held down by guttering mastic ,that wont move a nanometre

I used some super strong duck tape, its grey color, and did this same trick he did at start of video when you cut it in half and it still holds after 1 year with 0 problems and it costs nothing :)

For tubeless, you recommend stans tape and stay away from gorilla?

I have used both. Gorilla is easier for me to install depending on the rim. The downside is it may be difficult to remove down the road. Stan’s tape is stiffer so it may not conform to the inner rim so well.

Shouldn't the tape be all the way to edges of the rims on the inside?

Yes it should, but too high up on the sides as to block the bead of the tire from locking.
