What is the thinking on cutting down the top ply? I'd have thought more just makes is slightly stiffer and heavier, and there is no height/clearance issue, so might as well go with 1/2inch or 3/4inch (whatever on hand)?

A set of three aluminum guides were one of my first Rockler purchase. Really love those things and your wooden one is very well made. I shelled out for the larger clamp surfaces you screw wood jaws on. I absolutely love that they're wide enough to be the saw offset. I also bought the nice solid plastic saw guide for it and even ignoring the guiding it provides it has zero clearance you cut yourself where the blade teeth are so I avoid chip out. Love how easily you made making a guide look.

Nice. Simple. Effective. Generally I find cut offsets to be tool and blade dependent, and tend to label said tool-blade combination rather than the jig/fence.

I don't know if it has ever happened to you......synchronisation! Out of the last five build projects you have posted, I have been thinking about four of them concurrently. I did not purchase your new disc belt sander plan becuase just a couple of days before you posted your video I had purchased your plan on the older version which is suitable for a drill. But I did purchase your straight edge plan today as it was just the thing I wanted. And I also wanted to share with you that I built your older wooden K clamps. I built one and am mightily pleased with it. I am going to build five more now :-) And there are so many more of your projects I am planning to build. Somehow my style of working and thinking matches the most with you...so far 😀 Thanks for all your sharing. Helps me tremendously as I learn only from You Tube. Self taught basically. Man...when are you going to stop getting new ideas !

Again a great build. Suggestion: cut at the beginning and and 2 slots on the top part of the jig. That way you could install 2 spacers for your saw when lining up your jig . After you are set and clamped you can remove the spacers and start cutting . You can build different spacers depending on your tools

nice build. I have a very similar clamp/rail that I bought from Lidl as they were selling them cheap and the thing is useless as a straight edge; the body is aluminium and it flexes laterally towards the middle when you're pushing against it.

John, nice video! I like it very much. What do you think about making one part of the bearing blocks of the cam wider so the circualar saw cuts it to the exact measurement from the straight edge? It would indicate the saw kerf like on commercial track saws and you don't need to add the distance from the blade to the fence to the measurement you are going to cut. Aligning the straight edge would be a little easier. It's just an idea! Greetings from germany Josch

John again you've solved a problem for me. I've had an aluminum straight-edge clamp for years but it uses cam clamps underneath which have to be threaded on to the correct thickness.....A MAJOR PAIN IN THE ASS....I'm going to buy your plans but only use the clamp system mounted to my aluminum rail. Thanks for sharing your experience and capacities.
