Sourcing Fresh Flowers (US)
● Local Wholesale Floral Supplier - Most wholesalers require you are a business and have an EIN/sales tax ID. Some wholesalers sell to the public. They keep flowers on hand that you can shop or you can order in advance
● Your local flower shop may let you order bunches of flowers in advance
● If you live near a flower market (like the Los Angeles Flower Markets) you can shop there. A lot of these items will always be in stock or you can order ahead of time and you don’t normally need a business license to shop there.
● You can find carnations and babys breath at your local grocery store, Costco or Trader Joes
● Lastly, you can order from an online wholesaler. If you google wholesale ti leaf, you will find many different options. Many of the online wholesalers don’t require you are a business but they usually have a minimum.

Wow, this is incredible. Noho au ma Kaua’i, and I’ve only seen this style a few times. The amount of work that goes into it is incredible. Nani loa o ia. What can you use for the threads that is natural and would break down? We usually put out lei in the ocean after we’ve kept them in the house dried for a while.

Your tutorial are so good and easy that I can even make them! Question, how early could I make this and be sure they would they stay looking fresh. 2-3 days. This type of flower, carnations. Thank you!
@makeitmegan
@makeitmegan Жыл бұрын
It will be fine in the fridge for 2-3 days. If you are making it with white carnations, I would only do 1-2 days because they show more browning than a color carnation

Could u use nylon thread or would it rip the flowers? Im hus wondering how to hide the ribbon when dewing the flowers on. Its a beautiful piece❤
@makeitmegan
@makeitmegan Жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried nylon thread, my only concern would be if the thread is not thick enough, it will go right through the flowers. Now that I’ve made this lei many many times, I find it easiest to sew on a few pieces of babys breath than the carnation then 2 bunches of babys breath in between. Basically I sandwich the carnations with babys breath and it does a good job of hiding any thread and stem!

How many days in advance can you create the lei so the flowers do not welt?
@makeitmegan
@makeitmegan Жыл бұрын
This style I would only make a day ahead. You could make the ti leaf base 2 days ahead (keep it in the fridge) and then add the babys breath and carnations the day before

If I don’t have twine, can I use something else like yarn ?
@makeitmegan
@makeitmegan 2 ай бұрын
I haven’t used yarn before. I’m not sure if it would keep ti leaf in place, the plastic twine kind of grips the ti leaf. If you don’t have the lei twine, I would try long raffia or jute twine

Can I replace to carnation with roses for the same effect?
@makeitmegan
@makeitmegan 3 ай бұрын
I haven’t used roses before but I’ve seen other people make this style with roses. I imagine the process is the same, you might have to make a few adjustments when sewing it on based on the stem length 🌺😊
